Help, my truck has been in the shop for almost 6 weeks and the local shop is at wits end. A short history: it is a 99 2500 4 x 4 with the 5 speed manual transmission. It has about 370,000 miles and has been mostly trouble free. Expensive things were done by the original owner like a new VP44 and clutch. I have had a few issues like 5th gear falling off the shaft, but I fixed that myself. Now for the new issues. I started to have dead pedal issues. If I pushed it to the floor a couple of times, it normally came back and all was well. Sometimes I would get a check engine light, but it would still run fine. After I shut it off, the check engine light cleared and all was well. Then a new thing started to happen. I would start the truck and as soon as I would touch the accelerator pedal after it started, it would rev up to the governor until I turned it off. I replaced the TPS and it seemed to get a little better, then it started going to full throttle after startup again. Then, it started to become hard to start as if was not sending a signal to the fuel pump (Fass DDRP installed quite a while ago by the original owner). But if I would wait 30 seconds to a minutes, the fuel pump would finally get power and it would start fine. I took it to a local shop (they are a respected shop but do not specialize in cummins diesels). They diagnosed it as a failed ECM. They ordered one from a shop in Cary, NC (by the way, don't ever deal with them) as that was the only place they could locate one. Once it came, they installed it and it seemed to solve the reving up uncontrolled, but it would not send power to the fuel pump. A 2nd ECM from the same company did the same thing. Now, the computer company will not even talk to the repair shop. Nor will they refund the money except for a ridiculous restocking charge and a fixed fee that totals nearly half of the ECM cost.

They gave me the name of another company they located that can provide an ECM. They are Flagship One located in New York. Does anyone know anything about them? Also, from what I have said, do you think the ECM is the problem? Could it be a faulty new TPS? Who can recommend a good repair shop in Eastern North Carolina who might know what to do with my truck. Sorry for the long post, but it is not a short story. I really want my truck back and want to be able to trust it again as it has been such a good vehicle. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug
