My dealer said the pump was covered up to 100K and OFFERED to do the in tank install. I plan on keeping the truck a LONG time, so I went for the Glacier external pump, I like the idea of being able to reach and replace easilly.

I looked around by the fuel filter for the pump and didn't see it.

I didn't look very hard though. Is it behind it? Do you have to look from the bottom.

I also am thinking of buying the Genos replacement and keeping my old one as a spare.

I am at 74K now.

It might not be there, if the in-tank conversion was done.

The filter mount pump sits on the firewall side of the filter canister and is much easier to see from below.

My LP just died at 37k. Being replaced by dealer under warranty, but they have had my truck for a week and say they are still waiting for the pump to arrive. How long should it take them to get it? Isn't this a common part? I miss my truck!

You would think it is a common part.

I think instead of having the dealer do mine and using the in tank unit. I am going to verify I have a engine mounted one and then buy a spare from Genos to carry with me.

The process is very quick at most dealers, and I haven't heard the pumps are backordered or anything crazy like that.

Maybe your dealer is jerking you around. They forgot to order the part, but since honesty is no longer a part of doing business, they simply tell you "pump's not here yet". [Actually, if they forgot to order it, then technically they aren't lying by saying it's not there yet... but c'mon. ]

Sorry... I tend to be a bit cynical with certain things.

A fuel pressure guage would have done nothing for me. My pump went out like a light switch turning off. It hiccupped the slightest bit about 20 minutes prior on the highway, it was just the slightest hesitation at cruising speed.

IMHO for your situation I would set up the aftermarket system now bypassing the old filter mounted unit. It will be a back up in case your new pump fails.

The 100,000 mile warranty will cover replacement of your LP when it fails if you choose to wait. They replaced mine with an in-tank setup at no cost to me.

For the 04. 5's this is the most common problem reported on the 7 forums I follow.

Ditto. Mine just slam died. On an off ramp. The people behind me were #@$%! to say the least. Replaced mine under warranty to an in-tank model. Hoping for the best.

Yep, I do have the filter canister mounted pump.

That thing is tiny, now wonder it only produces 5-6psi. I think I will order a replacement in the near future just to have.
