I'm certain once i tear into the job it will all come back pretty quick, shoot had most of it apart to put the harness in for the cab lights the other day. I do agree that the dodge trucks come apart pretty easy, ferds on the other hand.....

Mike,

The price for a new OEM dash cover is about $260 at MoparPartsAmerica

Part number 5GK45RC8AC is for interior trim code C3 - "Cirrus" (?) color

Part number 5GK45VK9AB is for interior trim code K9 - "Suede" (tan) color

Part number 5GK45LAZAB is for interior trim code AZ - "Agate" (dark gray) color

Best regards,

John L.

Just got off to phone with one of the local Dodge houses around here and they said that the part number for the Agate (dark gray) cover had changed to from 5GK45LAZAB to 5GK45LAZAC, can anyone here verify if that is correct before I have them get one shipped from across town, I'm kinda leary of having one shipped from online incase it gets damaged.

I have replaced this upper dash pad on my friends truck. I replaced it with the proper part from Dodge, not that dash cap thing. Pulling the dash is really not that hard. In fact, I have pulled his twice already (pad the 1st time and evap. core the 2nd). Make the job go way easier by pulling the column completely out of the truck. Resist the temptation to just "drop it down". After that, just disconnect the air bag module on the center floor hump, a/c vacuum line connector (above and to the left of air bag module). Then undo the connectors behind the pass. side kick panel (blower, radio antenna, etc). Next, disconnect the big connector to the left of the column and other connectors to the left of that one. Remove screws at the base of the windshield. Loosen bolts at lower corners of dash (they bolt to inner stucture and are normally hidden be the kick panels). The dash will now tilt out rotating on the loosened bolts. Tilt it towards the seats. There are 3 more connectors behind the fuse box on the drivers side. Once there are undone, with a friend, lift the dash out as a unit. FYI -- this is how the factory assmebled the truck.

Be sure not to "take the dash apart". Many will remove the bezel, cluster, radio, pass. air bag, etc to get the dash out. It is not necessary. It should go in an out as a unit.

Once it is out and on the tailgate. You can swap the upper dash pad out. You will see why you had to pull the dash as the pad mounting screws are impossible to get to with the dash in the truck, even tilted forward.

Hope this helps

I do it your impossible way for about the last 8 or 9 years now ;)

Hey bob4x4, How do you change out the cracked dash? Sounds like you have another possibly less intensive way to replace the dash pad. Thanks in advance!

I remove as little as possible,I roll the dash back leaving it in the truck. I have done so many I know where all the fastners are of course making it much easier than for the guy who will only do one in his lifetime. Having a good selection of tools will help as well.

Have you ever thought of producing a video of the procedure? I'm sure if the price is right, you could sell a bunch. Lots of cracked dashes out there, mine included!!!!!!!!

I am a VERY handy guy. If you are of a mind to, I would appreciate the lowdown on the exact course of fastener removal and manuevers that you use. I'm sure it is not all that difficult... just thought if you knew the shortcuts you could share them with all of us "cracked dash replacement virgins" and save us some wasted time and effort. Thanks! Eric

After pulling off the trim pieces on the front side of the dash and the pass airbag. remove all the fastners that hold the dash cover at the accessible side. Lower the steering column. Roll the dash back then remove all the fastners that are on the underside of the edge under the dash cover(w/shield side). Those screws also hold the defroster duct work in place also .

Many thanks. Will give the college try when I pickup the dash cover. Any place that you know of that has them at a good price would be appreciated. Eric
