Replacement Front Coils

Does anyone here have experience using the superheavyduty front replacement coils from Otto-Max? I am considering adding them to the front of my truck to gain some capacity and a little bit of hight. I would have a look into "TheCarliSuspension" "LorenzIndustries" ThurenFabrication" "Koreperformance". Lorenz makes a front coil for the guys that run snow plows

The heavy duty coils from Lorenz cost about double compared to Otto-Max ones. It sounds like they are very similar products. What would make the Lorenz springs worth twice as much?

I like my Lorenz 23% coils and they do level the vehicle. I don't think the Mopar's level the vehicle. I can't speak for Otto-Max.

I have the Mopar 5211-3988AA (988) sprtngs, They level the truck and sag only 1/2 inch w/ 800# plow

I did the Mopar 5211-3988AA springs also cost about $175 or so when I did them, very stiff but don't sag at all with my trailer on the front hitch. I also did a Helwig rear stableizer bar truck handels best it ever rode No tail wagging the dog like it was from the factory... . The other springs seemed to be a bit too soft ( my friend has the Kore level kit nice but a bit too much lift for me)

I actually have the 988's in the truck now. My truck is just really heavy. 9300lbs with an empty bed, without the plow and salter on. The utility body full of tools just adds alot of weight. In the winter with the plow and loaded salter the truck is between 11,000 and 12,000 lbs. The otto-max springs are suppose to be about 20-25% stronger than the 988's.

The otto-max springs have a 1 inch diameter where as the 988 coil springs were about . 75 inch diameter. Can anyone tell me about taking out the front coils? Is this something I can do on my own, or do I need to go to a spring shop for this? Not sure if I need any special tools for this like a spring compressor.

I just replaced two sets of springs on my friend's 06s and they were very simple. No spring compressor needed. Unbolt the sway bar endlinks and your in business. Have a pry bar handy and unbolt the passenger side clamp holding the rubber brake line. It stretches a bit too much. Good Luck!

"Adventures to the dealership Chapter 1,365,823,644" I stopped into the local dealership the other day to order the heavier springs for my 06' and as always THEY ARE CLUELESS!!!!!! And after the poor parts boy ran to the back of the warehouse for the third time to attempt to find answers to my questions. He finally told me that " if I bring them the VIN number of a truck that has the springs you want, we "might" be able to get them for you".

As I walked out of the dealership laughing, I told the kids at the desk I would find a MOPAR part number instead of a VIN and call him back for pricing. So with this chapter being closed. Oo. How much do the Otto-max springs cost in relation to the springs available from the dealership? Also is there a specific part number to reference when calling Otto-max? Or what information will they require when they are called ?

I'm not sure what the MOPAR springs would cost because I had the heaviest MOPARS (988s) when I went to the Otto-max springs. I can tell you this much about the springs I purchased. They are about 30% stronger than the 988s, lift the front up about 2. 5 inches, and my truck has never had a better ride. Keep in mind I have a very heavy truck though. My empty weight is 9300 lbs and when loaded up with the plow, salter, and salt I'm in the 12,000 lb range. I also have added 3 leafs to rear of my truck. Between the front springs and the rear leafs I added the truck is perfect for how I use it now.

Oh and the front springs were about $300 I believe ($150 each) pluss shipping. When you call you just tell them the model of truck and what you want. I wanted a small lift and heavier spring and they sent me exactly what I was after. Great company to deal with.

AWESOME The Otto-Max equipment sounds exactly like what I am looking for then. My truck is not nearly that heavy, and is still stock height. I am having suspension travel issues with the newly installed Mag-Hytec front diff cover. The track bar clashes with the the diff cover every time I hit a bump in the road, or much less travel over a speed bump in a parking lot. My hope is that with a small height gain and a little more front spring stiffness that I may be able to help prevent the constant contact problems associated with the design of the cover and the closeness of the track bar to it. I don't travel off-road nearly as much as I did with my 99' Ram, so I just don't think that I would be able to justify the cost of a Kore-chase system for the truck, although after riding in Joe Donnelly's truck with his Kore system, it is gives excellent ride quality. Oo. thank you for the information

I like the Kore variable rate front coil springs. They start at half the stiffness of stock and progressively increase in rate as they compress until they are three times as stiff as stock. They also lift the front end a couple inches over stock, even if you have a heavy fornt bumper/winch setup as I do.

I went with the Lorenz leveling kit and the +23% spring rate. The ride is fantastic, wish I had done it sooner than 112K miles, new shocks included probably helped too.



Remember, you gotta remove the shocks to replace the springs, for those of you doing this yourself. It also helps if you remove the tire!
