Prior to Driving up to Surrey BC for Piers grand opening and dyno runs I filled my truck with #2 and just wanted to put down some observations on Mikes pin. I drove from Portland OR to Surrey BC and back on my 45 gallon aux tank. I used less than 30 gallons for that part on my trip - after I got home I ran for 5 days city driving the another 250 mile trip to Eastern OR. Total miles driven were slightly over 1000 - mpg was 21. 45. In addition I posted 353. 7 RWHP and 888 lbft torque.

The truck responds quite normally when you drive it that way. When you want power just put your foot into it and hang on. EGT's ran between 600 and 700 pre-turbo and never went above 950 on hills. On the dyno at 353. 7 EGT's were 1400 degrees. Smoke is in direct response to how you drive.

On hills with the cruise control on it will fluctuate between 68 and 72 on about 2 - 4 mph. You don't feel the fluctuation so I was trying to keep an eye on it.

All in all I am quite happy with the pin and feel that it was worth the cost.

Bob,

I find that the more mods I do, the less mileage I get. Just can't seem to keep my foot out of it - LOVE THAT POWER!!:D

Seriously, the mileage sounds good, doesn't sound like there is any loss. What were you getting before the change?

Stan

You are right - it's the right foot that makes mileage go down. I have always either improved or kept my mileage the same with all of my mods. Mileage was about the same before the pin but it is nice knowing that the power is there when you need it.

Fuel pin

Well everything i have read about Old Smokey's fuel pin tells me i need to get one. I recently had my pump rebuilt and turned up 10% and am very happy with the power i have now. Do you guys think it would give me more power then i have now. I couldnt tell you what my milage is after the rebuild because i havent even ran a tank of fuel through it yet. And if i would see an increase in power where do i get one and how much is it going to cost me?

Can anyone compare Old Smokey's pin to the DD performance pin?

I ask because I tried out a DD pin and it was a serious downgrade in my non-intercooled 91.

On the same type of Dyno I saw 28 RWHP and that was with just adding the correct washer. When the pin came the washer was missing so Mike sent me one. I installed it before I went to Piers Dyno Mania - 353. 7 RWHP from 325 RWHP 2 weeks before both runs on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno. I ran on a Dyno Jet in June and posted 300 RWHP, 330 RWHP at Diesel Thunder (Dyno Jet), 325 RWHP at DFI (Dyno Dynamics) in early Sept. and finally 353. 7 RWHP at Piers on his Dyno Dynamics Dyno. In addition I started burying my 30 psi boost guage. I now have a 60 lb guage but have not tested it. Both Dyno Jet runs were without the pin. Also Dyno Jet dynos are generous.

Jay

This pin - it's actually the eccentric - is like no other out there. You either run it full on - or full off. My guess is that it will increase your power but if I were you I would PM Mike and see what he says.

I would guess that if I ran my truck on a Dyno Jet I would see at least 375 RWHP possibly more.
