There's actually an adjustment for the TPS rheostat, unplugging the batteries isn't going to "reset" anything. You jump on a pin on the PCM, take the voltage reading there, then look on the APPS itself it should have a voltage on the tag, adjust the reading to the voltage set on the APPS and your good to go. Pin 23 comes to mind on the PCM, but I'd have to check the service manual to be sure.
Rheostat's don't set themselves by stepping on the accelerator, they have to be adjusted. This is a very common belief on this website.
