results of sac and trk pulls

Lone Star Rammers: sign up!

Just returned from the Scheid Diesel Rally

in Terre Haute, Indiana and have to say it

was a GREAT SUCCESS!! I had a great time

(as always)and want to personally thank

Dan Scheid and his ENTIRE STAFF for putting

on such a excellent event!

It seems as though there were alot more

vendors this year. More on that later... ...

Tractor pulls were fantastic on Saturday

night. Dyno runs were done all day Saturday

and Sunday. Some of the higher numbers on

those were as follows:

NAME TYPE TRUCK

Rudnick Dodge 356 H. P. /887 Torque

Crawford Dodge (24V) 491 H. P. /1186 Torque

(Larry had the new "Blue Chip" box, timing

module and high flow injectors)

Key Ford PSD 308 H. P. /750 Torque

(with chip)

350 H. P. /854

(chip and propane)

Caudill Dodge 355 H. P. /848 Torque

(Dr. Performance)

Scott Amos Dodge 363 H. P. /1270 Torque

(Custom Scheid Pump)

Pusharich Ford 423 H. P. /1188

(Nitrous&Water Inj. )

Tom Meers Dodge 454 H. P. /1144

Porterfield Dodge 508 H. P. /1311

(Custom Scheid Pump)

On Sunday, we were all treated to a "small

version" of the "horespower wars" between

TST Products and Blue Chip Performance.

Tom Meers allowed the dealers to use his

beautiful black 2000 Dodge CTD Dually 5-

speed to put the boxes on for the dyno runs.

Several boxes were placed on the truck and

I regret to say I did not get those numbers.

(I'm sure someone will post these)

However, the "hot" competition boxes were

put on last and I did get these numbers:

TST- 454 H. P. /1144 Torque

Blue Chip- 432 H. P. /1091 Torque

Congratulations to Mark Chapple and his

family and staff! It was my understanding

that Blue Chip "won" this competition at

the Muncie event. (I was not @ that event. )

I want to say that it was really good to see

everyone again! Tom, your son Will is a fine

young man! Tom, Will and Eric, I am going to

get up there to see you guys soon. Steve St. Laurent, where is that application for the GLTDR?

I am ready to join your fine organization too.

You really have a great group of guys up there.

BTW, Stan and Mo Macie... ... you guys left

without saying goodbye? If I missed

anybody I apologize. My son and I drove

all night to get back so my memory may

be "dazed. "

Finally,... . my sincere thanks to "J. P. ",

Korey, Nick, and Eric at the Terre Haute

shop who worked tirelessly to get my truck

ready after all the additional "pump mods"

and "adjustments"; even with a few minor

glitches. Eric, you are one knowledgable

technician on that mighty P7100! Thanks

again for all the time you took with Johnner

and I in explaining what was being done!

Wow John

Thats quite a bit of boost from last year for you? 120 more hp? (I know not exact but rounded it). Its all on #2 diesel right? Can you go into a lil detail on your setup now, some specifics?

Also anyone know why they made it Friday and Saturday this year? Or what the plans are for next year?

Tom's run was without propane I assume?

And yes what about the truck pulls... . fill us in. I spent the last two nights working :(

Gene and Kat:

Sorry for the delay. I had to get some rest after driving/

riding all night/morning with my son.

I don't have all the results from the truck/tractor pulls

from Friday as I wasn't there for all of it. I do believe

the "Green Streak" John Deere finally won the Unlimited.

And we left early last night to get home, but while I was

there I saw six (6) trucks break their driveshafts including

Kent Crowder in the "Scheid Truck. " I will try to get some

better results by phone for you later tonight if some of the

other members don't post. You see "Kat" "a good lead is

hard to follow!" You did an excellent job last year for us

and I am sorry you couldn't make it. Steve St. Laurent

may have some more later I hope.

Tom Meers made his "runs" all on #2 diesel only. No

propane! He told me "It scares him!" (Tom, are you

out there???)

As for my truck, Kory took the pump off the truck and

Eric put it back on the test stand. He and "J. P. " made adjustments to the fuel, governor, timing and turbo

boost settings all being raised over what we had

last year. More smoke now too!!!!!!!!

Eric, I don't know why Dan and his staff set the event

for Friday and Saturday this year. You may want to

e-mail him Monday. I also don't know what their

plans are for next year. I promise you I will do better

with these "results" next year. Maybe we will get

lucky and have you with us again Eric!

I will try to get back on here later. I hope some of the

other "attendees" will post.

Talk with you later.

Loretta Mitchell-Full pull

Dave Mitchell-353ft

That was friday in the open class. Believe they were pullin PA saturday.

Couple of broken driveshafts including a Ford who broke both front and rear.

Saturday:

Not sure who won.

Think there was 7 broken drive shafts.

1 blown turbo.

1 broken axle.

On the dually's the wheels looked like they were touching the front of the fender well... ... then you would here a loud "POP" and the back end of the drve shaft would hit the ground.

John_P, Thanks for omitting my dyno numbers as I was very proud of them 400/1086 but but nobody seems to notice the self tunners and on #2 only. Ramman

ramman:

I apologize for not getting your numbers up there. Believe

me, it was not an intentional thing. I tried to get as many

of them as I could. Last year "Kat Diesel" took pictures

of them and then posted all those results. Unfortunately,

he was unable to make it this year. I saw alot of photos

being taken so maybe someone will put them on the site.

And you are right, those are good numbers and they are

numbers to be proud of! Congratulations!!

MGM and "Kat":

I have obtained some of the results of the truck pulls

from Saturday night:

7400 lb. Stock Class

1st Place: Ed West Dodge CTD

2nd Place: Chris Boone Dodge CTD

8000lb. Stock Class

1st Place: Jim Bradley Dodge CTD

2nd Place: Van Haisley Dodge CTD

8000lb. Open Class

1st Place: Kenny Johnson Dodge CTD

2nd Place: Kent Crowder Dodge CTD

3rd Place: Robert Oakes Dodge CTD

Open class on Saturday

John, I thought Wade Wright (winner of the open-heavy in Muncie) won with a pull of 320 ft. I know he came up to the tower to collect the first place money. I don't think Kent accepted any money as I recall they called out Wade, Kenny, and Robert to collect the money. I also thought that Kent out pulled Kenny by a few inches...

Great event!!! John, your truck looked really good (like new). In the 7400lb. class on Saturday, Larry Crawford won with his truck. This was the first time he's ever pulled and he took the sled 292. 44 feet ( I believe). He was one of the more fortunate ones- I think there was something like 8 broken driveshafts, 1 axle shaft, and 1 turbo boot. There might have been more things broken (probably were- I lost count), but that's what I heard. It was worth the trip just to see the Mitchell's trucks run.

johnrv4:

Thanks for helping me out on the results of the pulls

Saturday. Next time I will try to get a copy of the

final standings.

"I cleaned Dave's (Mitchell)clock at Lancaster, OH saturday night in the 8000lb open diesel class. (well sunday morning) I put a good 40 feet on him!

Ok, the rest of the story. He broke really bad. I'm not really sure what happened, but the back wheels came completely off the ground, he stopped moving, the sled smacked him and then he bounced a few times and got whacked by the sled again. It was pretty radical"

A Ford man on drugs sent this to me today, anyone?

Gene:eek:

First of all I would like to thank the whole group at Scheids for putting on this event. Also I asked J. P. about the why Fri. and Sat. instead or Sat. and Sun. and his reply was , that they had taken a survey and that is what the majority of the folks wanted. I could only make it for Sat. beacause of work on Fri. All that aside though I personally had a great time , it was nice to get a chance to talk in person with other TDR members, not to mention other non members that were there. Just go's to show that there is a lot of good folks out there. I do know one thing for sure though I wish I would have had a case of U-joints to sell at the pulls;) Doe's anyone know if the guy that had the Flowerpoke ever came down and claimed it to get it out of the infield?:D

Will and I left the campground late, had a few problems on the way home, nothing bad... .

I want to extend a BIG,BIG thank you to Dan Scheid and his family and employees, not just for the event, but also for taking care of me FAST when I experienced my THIRD lift pump failure... the dyno runs woud not have been possible without that... also a big thank you to Steve St. Laurent, Mark Chapple, and Scott Kilby for re-programming my PM3.

For the record, here's what I have to say about my runs on the dyno, and the results...

John is right, I was too "chicken" to try the propane. Maybe later... . Didn't get propane for HP wars, anyway, got it for fuel economy while pulling an RV trailer. And I didn't run with the VanAaken hooked up. Kinda wish I had, I wanted to fumigate the crowd :D.....

Blue Chip ran their box on my truck first, but it was a "street" program, mild, they were not satisfied, so I agreed to let them try again, this time with the box programmed in "race" mode. That resulted in a 432HP, 1087 ft. lbs.

I ran with TWO different TST programs, the third run was with their regular competition PM3, available to the general public.

No printout of that one available, it got lost in the shuffle.

It was lower than I would have liked.

The fourth & final run was with my own PM3, which had just been re-programmed by Mark Chapple for a different fueling curve to compensate for the Hx40. I'm actually running less fuel (reduced duty cycle)than the box is capable of putting out, but I'm also getting a lot less smoke, and the turbo lag is just about gone. :D In other words, I'm ruinning less fuel than I had for the dyno run at Thunder in Muncie.

The numbers from that final run are 453 HP, and 1144 ft. lbs. . That is the program I'm using everyday on the street, even used it while towing my travel trailer home.

Other vendors wanted to try their boxes too, but it was getting out of hand, and I didn't want that many runs on the dyno, with hot shutdowns in order to change out the boxes. I personally feel that all the fueling boxes out there are all pretty close. It just depends on what features you want. I prefer to run a TST so Steve St. Laurent & I can compare results, and also because I'm only a 2 hour drive from Mark's shop if I need help. It's rough being friends with all these different vendors at the same time :D but I'm here to tell you they're ALL good, I know, I've tried them all (well almost all).

John P. 's truck about drove me nuts, he's one lucky dude, for a 96, it looks NEW, and he's loaded for bear. Not a good idea to try to race him... BFG All-Terrains and all that chrome under the hood really set off the bright red paint. It's a wonder he didn't get 7 speeding tickets on the way home !!!!

Got to agree with MGM on that one:rolleyes: Frank's truck is all that , it was cool to watch him pull.

Need to clarify my remarks on the propane in my first post up above...

I used the propane system(Powershot 2000 from Diesel Performance Products, Keith Long) while towing my trailer home, even with my TST box turned on.

It is safe if you know what you're doing and understand how it works.

THE PROBLEM IS : How high of a setting/level to run on the TST box(or any other fueling box) in combination with the propane. The amount of propane is also adjustable. The only way to find out is to experiment, and I didn't want to do that right there and then. That last hard run on the dyno had Mark Chapple looking like this:eek: and backing away from my truck, at the sound of my turbo.

You are much more likely to break something on the dyno than on the drag strip, or pulling a trailer. Since I'm my own warranty station, and the account's a little low, I decided against the gamble. Obviously, I don't need the propane for power, but I sure like the fuel economy it gives me while pulling.

oops, kick me, somebody... I forgot to thank my bro Doc Tinker for posting the pic of my truck on the dyno. I got home late & tired, so it was a little hard to put brain in gear to write everything I did in that first post on this thread...

And Steve St. Laurent for helping me get the TST re-programmed, even if it means I'm gonna beat him on the drag strip someday! :D Eric Pitts for his hospitality in throwing us a great BBQ/B. O. M. B. session...

Last, but NOT least, my bro Eric McBride who's always there when I need his help !

I hope I haven't left anyone out. All my friends, old & new, were truly the highlight of this event.

After having a good time at the event, Elaine and I left early Sunday for home. Would like to thank Eric Pitts and his Wife for a great time and the good food, we really enjoyed ouselves and got to meet some new people. Also, thanks to Doc Tinker Eric Pitts, Steve St. Laurent and others, I now have the 275 injectors in my truck. What a difference.
