Retired but still working. We were sold out so I went to work for the new owner. Lasted 2 yrs and then we were dumped again. Austin Energy picked us up. Wife(manager over billing)has been with them 29yrs,son(lineman)been with them 5. 5yrs,and me about 1. 1yr I will try to make 5yr with them then I get vested and I will get some money. It will help supplement my IBM retirement check which don't amount to **** All those yrs I wasted with them. If I would of known then what I know now about IBM retirement I would not have worked for them. Another lesson learned the hard way.

I retired last Feb... . mostly do to the wreck I had back in 5/00, I figured that if I continued walking the many miles a day that I had to in my old work that when I did retire there would be nothing left for retirement [very bad knees and new hip/pelvis repair from wreck]... so counted the nickles and looked at the BS in todays PC world... the nickles said I could although at a little reduced life style [ok too don't need anything any more, wife has it all now LOL]... so at 55 years old I retired !!!!

Retired

:) Got my first retirement check sat. Funny thing is the wife lost her job of 22 years due to corporate greed as well as myself. Something has to be done about these damn companies selling out their employees! Just venting, but will be back turning wrenches within about amonth, wife has a real big honey do list! The system is backwards, you should be retired till your 35, then work till you drop over dead, that way you can have the big house and station wagon when you need them for the kids instead of when they are gone! Tim:)

Well, I did it kinda backwards, worked for the same company for 25 years, but came to the point of not being able to support the company President, asked for and accepted a buyout.

Retired at 45.

Thanks to being long in the market past the get out date and after almost 6 years, I'm back to work for a consultant doing work for the same company. I'm working with other contractors doing upgrades on natural gas systems (distribution). Easiest work I've ever had, zero stress and the money ain't bad.

I feel I was blessed to spend 5 years with my teenage boys, they're now 19 and 17. If you get the chance, I highly recommend taking a little time off. There's more to life than money.

Retired from the Air Force almost 10 years ago. Then I took a job as a government contractor doing some of the same things I did while active duty. And the pay's a lot better, too. Wife equals a GS-12 at a local medical center. So with my retirement pay, job, and wife's job, we get by.

It ain't all it's cracked up to be!

Retired almost 2 years ago at age 52 after 32 years in a government job. Went right back to work after only 4 days off, then got layed off for the winter. The first couple of months were fun because we were traveling for a large portion of it. After the newness of retirement wore off, I got bored real fast. Can only play so many rounds of golf and then that isn't as much fun anymore, especially in the winter in the Pacific NW. Too wet.

If you are going to retire - HAVE SOMETHING ELSE TO OCCUPY YOUR TIME! Make it something you really enjoy, be it a job or volunteering. Either way - Have some fun!

It's great!!!

I retired completely about a year ago and love it. My wife still works and we do quite well. I don't know how I ever had time to work. Always something to do. I'll start collecting SS in three months I'll be taking it early and using it to buy my wife a new car. Maybe a BMW???

Retired? Nah, onward and upward.

I have opted for the latest buyout as my employer goes further into oblivion so as of March 31st, I will be "retired". Now if the weather ever breaks, I can start ground breaking for the new barn. Once that goes online, I figure on doing some part time driving or something.

I started going on jobsites with my carpenter father when I was eight. I don't know how to relax nor do I want to.

Retired from the Army almost 10 yrs ago at age 46, have worked a couple part time jobs to finance my fishing habit. I'm convinced that retirement is wasted on the old and never get bored.
