Any hydraulic gu-ru's around?

Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting Garret 420 gr p+ wow!!!!!

I'm thinking about upgrading my 870 IC slug barrel to a fully rifled cantilever barrel this fall before deer season. I've had really good luck with the Brenneke Classic Magnum 1 1/8 oz slugs in the IC choke barrel, but can I shoot them out of the rifled barrel? If not, what saboted slugs seem to perform well?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

B G,

Very cool, but I have my eye on the Rem cantilever 20" barrel. I anticipate surgical accuracy once I top it with the Tru-Glo red dot that I have on the I/C barrel right now.

I have shot the federal sabot slugs through a Hastings rifled barrel on a BPS. Grouped 2" at 100. Shot a deer at 160 yards. Worked real well.

160 yards I know that in some places you have to use shotgun. I have never used it for that but isnt 160 yards a very long shot for this? I was never around artillery so I wouldn't know how to set up the azimuth for a shot like that.

Probably, but the sabots shoot pretty flat out to 200. Shot was longer than I thought as I was looking into the sunrise somewhat. The shot was down the edge of some railroad tracks so I know the actual distance was right. And yes it was ok to shoot as this was on naval weapon station Earle NJ. In any case I was highlighting how good the 50 cal sabot slugs are. Winchester has the fastest ones today, but federal and Remington are right in there too.

We had the copper ones at work for shooting out outboards out of Remington 870s. Never actually got to do it though.

I have a Remington 870 Magnum Wingmaster w/3" chamber. It has not been modified.

I am not familiar with the accuracy potential of rifled replacement barrels. Only what I have been told. Everything I have heard about the Hastings Barrel have been good. Your accuracy will depend on the preference of the gun. Try several different loads and brands. Use a good scope and do an accuracy test. Greg

I have the rem. cantalevered kit with scope and it does shoot really good. I found that the winchester 2 3/4 sabots shot more accurate than any others for me. I have killed a few deer with it locally. I would do it again. I also have moved the barrel to a couple of different 870's that I have and the scope stayed dead on.
