I have a 02, I recently put on a Phatshaft 62 (62/65/14).....

Im not happy with this thing... . Top end is way to hot...

So the rest of my setup is pretty much like this... Edge juice w/att, DDP 100, 3pc manifold (phatshaft as mentioned) 4" exhaust into Stacks. I run around on 37"'s, gears are 3. 55. transmission is auto, ATS internals (tripple disc etc) VP44 is the second one (about 220K or what 140000mi) and a Fass 150 so fuel is constant 17psi.

Boost peaks at 36-37 cruises around 8psi... . with programmer on 0 its really not any issues... some hazing. As stepped up to 5 smoke at low boost increases and more importantly the heat gets out of control... . I need to get the heat under control. It wants to go over 1500F easily.

So I have the option to send it in and change up to a 71mm exducer, but I have read that a 68mm exducer is quite a bit better. There seems to be many ideas on what I should do, someone even suggested a 62/65/12cm... that didnt make sense to me. I'm hoping to get a census of what would be the "most" right thing to do

Anyway, Ill take any suggestions here... Im even considering things like porting and polishing... . but that I dont think would be enough to get this thing running wide open and not getting hot like that.

Kyle: welcome to the Tdr forum

Maybe a "go das biggin schickin for kangaroo chopping or go home camshaft" may just be the ticket to knock off 200°f on the pyro and getting the turbo to spool better if you want to stay single turbo.

Porting the head is not cheap unless you do your self. But if you're gonna be that far into the engine, you might as well install a stage 3 cam from Hamilton or colt cam. The cam will make your engine more efficient.

Also the 24v heads flow more than the 12v so you've already got it good there.

Other than that, there are many turbo experts here that may give good advice.

Snow Performance Water Methanol Injection. More HP, more boost, LOWER EGTs.

Twins.

There's a lot more to doing a cam than popping the head off. Heck, the cam can be done with the head in place, it's the removal of the front of the engine and the radiator, inter cooler, A/C... That is where the work comes in.

Kyle, welcome to TDR. There are many options on how to choose the right charger for your truck. I think the first thing we need to know is how you use or are planning to use your truck. There is a big difference in my opinion between setting up a truck that is driven daily, tows/hauls, and is turned up to play on the race track every once in a while and one that is a dedicated toy that only is used only to race or sled pull.

Welcome to the forums! :)

Once you close your browser, 9 times out of 10 it's then gone. But if not, normally appears bottom left of this little text box. Can also find it on replying in the advanced section.

As for use, his primary use is street with some dyno pulls and general playing around. No trailer towing or heavy loads. Also not into the throttle at wot for more than 10-15 seconds.

Kyle, I think part of the issue is 3. 55 gears with 37" tires and an automatic. . . you are geared pretty high and not turning enough RPM, 4. 10s would probably help quite a bit.

Maybe could just use 3rd gear instead of 4th unless on a major hwy. Likely keep the rpms up to keep the turbo spooling more while using 3:55 gears.

I tow 32,000 lbs gross combined weight with 3:55 gears and 35" toyos. And yes it's a manual and could be a huge difference compared to automatic but kyle's truck is by itself. Only 6,800 lbs.

I use 4th gear at times just cruising as the 35" is large enough to act as another gear so 5th isn't really needed but I use it anyway. 4th does spool faster at 80-100 kph.

Since the 24v can run up to 3,200 rpms, I don't see why it can't run in third gear instead of forth.

Maybe it'll help.
