Got a "check engine" light the other day. Then the truck just plain wouldn't start. Cranked fine, but wouldn't fire. Let it sit for 10 min & it ran like nothing had ever been wrong, but the light was still on. Went to Nalley Dodge here in Atlanta. They told me the MAP sensor and the crankshaft sensor were bad & charged me $675 to replace. They said the crankshaft sensor requires a lot of labor. I didn't have much choice, so I paid after emailing DC & being told the Cummins warranty didn't cover either. Truck now has 43K so the DC warranty has expired.

What I want to know is, did I get screwed? Should I buy the Quick Check & deal with future codes myself?:(

Chuck, I hate to be the one to tell you but YES you got screwed. Both of the items were covered by the Cummins warranty. The labor for the sensors seems like way too much too. The MAP sensor is a 5 minute job, really that is no exaggeration and the crank sensor should be no more than 1. 5 hours. You got it pretty hard bud, sorry.

OUCH!!

I read the warranty info in the owner's manual. California coverage is much more comprehensive than the national coverage. In reading my coverage here in Georgia, I'm not clear on whether either of these sensors would be covered.

I'd like to pursue this with the dealer & with DC but I need ammo. Can anybody suggest where to start? Somebody must have fought this battle before.

Check your Emissions warranty

I not possitive but I think the both of these sensors should be included under the emissions warranty which the feds require coverage for 5 years and ? miles.

Sorry about your troubles

Victory!

Complaints to the Service Manager & to DC did the trick. SM called today to say they had discoverd that the sensors are covered by a warranty, and they are going to credit me with the entire $648. 00!

Thanks for the advice & encouragement. Soemtimes raising h*** works. :)

good to hear it!!! I had my crankshaft sensor replaced on mine as well. But they didnt charge me. Its good to see a dealership admit when they are wrong.
