I spoke with Don from Automotive Transmission Specialists yesterday. These guys are very knowledgeable, and are willing to help out TDR members. They had the fastest diesels at the Bandimere truck fest. No guys! they were not running any top secret stuff on their trucks. All their trucks are daily drivers. There's no twin turbo setup or top secret stuff. The only thing one truck was running, was a Bosch VR6 injection pump instead of the VP44. But anyhow, how would you guys like to meet with these folks and learn a little more about our trucks. They want to host a meeting at one of their shops(they also own Diesel Performance Specialists, and Converter Specialists). I will be talking with Don again soon, all I ask is some input as to when we can meet with ATS.

Thanx

Alex, I was down at ATS at the end of last week and spoke with Clint Cannon at the location on Kipling and west 43rd in Wheatridge. They seemed very interested in hosting a get together with the RMTDR guys. It was very interesting to talk to them and get their thoughts about performance diesel trucks and getting power to the ground. Thet are real close to my house and I am seriously thinking about going to them to get upgrades done to my Auto transmission. I believe they do know what they are talking about and they stand behind their products. To say the least it would be worth our time to have a meeting with them. If there is something I can help with please let me know.

Sounds good to me. Though I'll be on vacation from August 30th to September 14th.

I'd be interested to hear how they are putting the power to the ground... . Being that we know that they can't compete with DTT. Does anybody know if these guys are using Milled or Steel Strators in their TC's?

Kev

Kevin, they will build you what you want or require depending on your application. They have low stall-high torque stators with 3 inch carbon clutches and a lid made out of billet steel tested to 1160 ft-lbs. of torque and 520 horse power. This is with a 2 year 65,000 mile warranty. I've seen their products and they look exactly the same as the DTT tc stuff I've seen. They also do valve body modifications, Exhaust brakes, gauges, pumps and other things to improve performance and durability of the dodge trucks and Cummins motors. They have experience with both 12 valve and 24 valve trucks. Some of the guys working for them have modified trucks they drive daily and they took second place at the Cummins truck fest.

Mike,

I'm still confused, so are they using Milled strators or Steel strators? Most vendors are using Milled Strators cause they are cheap... and I sure can say from seeing what Bill K does, a Milled strator will not hold over a 1000ft lbs of torque for long.

I'm just curious what they are doing.

Jordan,

I think you're right, but you have to admit, it was pretty impressive. Also, Kevin we cannot assume how they upgrade the trannys. That's why we should give them a chance to show us their facilities and methods of upgrading power. I agree with Mike. These guys seem to know these trucks well.

I agree. . but that's why my curiosity has the best of me.

I don't want to see people drop a lot of money into a transmission that is advertised to hold so much power... and then have major problems with it. I know from experience that a Milled Strator will not hold the power. So I don't want to see any RMTDR members spend over $800+ for a part that literally cost about $35. If you get my drift.

I don't want to see any of our members end up getting into a bad situation. Especially when it is something like the transmission.

I'm totally willing to hear these guys out... but I really think that Laser Bob needs to be there also (pending on if he can make it). Bob has a ton of experience on Bill's system and has a good understanding of how our trannys work. He would be a very valuable resource to have available. Again... I don't want to see anybody get into a sales pitch, buy a system then get screwed cause it can't hold the power. I sure can say that I'd be mad if that happened to me... .

Hope you guys understand where I'm com'n from

Kev

Kevin, as I stated they will find out your specific application and work with you to get you what you need. They sell both milled and steel stators depending on what your application would require. They are also working to reduce the pricing of their stuff to fall more in line with the remainder of the folks who sell transmission upgrades and parts. I agree we need to hear them out and it would be great if Laser Bob could be there also as he probably best understands the DTT stuff and how our dodge trannies operate.

OK, I'm a tad confused regarding the stators. Whats the diff. between milled and steel? Milling is a machining operation, and steel is a material. Thus you could have a milled steel stator.

Pete

Thanks Bob... I was just getting ready to do that...

Here is a link to the page that Bob is referring too

Milled Strator

Basically a Milled strator is just aluminum... and cost around $35 to produce... when we "The Consumer" end up purchasing them for $400 +.

Hope this helps Pete...

I am always intrested as long as you can try and have it on a Saturday and I don't have to work. It gives me a good excuse to skip town for two days.

Alex, I'm in. Let me know if you need help setting something up. I live about 5 minutes or less away from ATS. Should be a good time and a real learning experience. You should shoot Laser Bob an email about this also and see if he can attend.

Mike

Sounds very interesting... my Sept weekends are pretty well booked but I'll be there if I can.
