Has anybody installed this muffler on their 3d gen truck? How has it done for you? I'm especially interested in how it sounds inside the cab at approx 65 mph while towing a 5th wheel (or any other similar load).

Thanks!

Paul at Rokktech advised that, in order to almost eliminate any droning at highway speeds, a resonator or another muffler should be added upstream of his muffler. Has anybody done this? If yes, please inform us of what brand and size of muffler/resonator was used and if there was any resulting droning (or lack thereof).

Thanks!

14 inch magnaflow works great for me

I wonder if the cat would help on '04. 5 and later trucks. I'm thinking of just replacing the stock muffler with one of these, but DO NOT want drone while towing.

Drone Elimination

I know this does not pertain to the "Silent Might muffler but, I remember reading about a member that installed a Magnaflow system (24" muffler, I believe) on his truck and got the dreaded drone. A local muffler shop in Colorado added a 10" or 11" Magnaflow muffler into his system and it eliminated the drone.

There are enough reports of adding additional, small mufflers or resonators for successful drone elimination, that I would believe it works.

Just asking, but why would you ever spend $ for two new mufflers when the original works ok. I realize the Rokkech is installed for improved flowthrough, but then adding another muffler to reduce the possibility of the dreaded drone seems to defeat the original purpose, doesn't it?

My thoughts exactly!!!!

either the rokktech muffler works WITHOUT a drone, by itself, or not.

so whats the story?

more actual users reactions please

I installed the auroturbine first because it was a good deal and the promise of better performance, but I could not keep my foot out of it so 'I never really noticed a difference. I finally got sick of the noise and I saw this product. I am happy with the results, no drone. (I am using both) I mainly use this truck for towing in the mountains.

Mark @ DPPI:

Thanks for the thread. That said, there's conflicting stories about the dreaded drone while using the mentioned muffler. Like almost everyone, I'm looking for the best of two worlds: better flow/performance with no droning. I really only use my truck while towing my 5er, and with it having the NV5600 trans and 3. 73 gears and at my normal tow speed of 65 mph, I'm right in that 1800-2000 rpm range a lot. Having a VERY little more drone than stock (which I have none of while towing like mentioned) would be acceptable, but I won't pay good $ for much more noise.

Anybody else:

Does anybody either have any more first-hand info on the Rokktech muffler or another recommendation?

I have the ROKKteck and a high flow race race muffler sitting in my living room right now. I hope to have this done in the next 3 days. So I can test it while going to the fall brawl. That will be about 6 hours round trip, that should be a good test of the system.

Yes I did. I can hardly hear it when at hiway speeds under 70MPH where the boost is only about 5 psi. As the boost starts climping from there you can start to hear it more and more. By the time 85-90 hits its a definate rumble. I doin't go that fast for long, trying to keep the fuel usage down. During acceleration there it is definatly louder than stock. If you can't smoke yet a good blast from the muffler in the window does the trick to. It almost hurts my ears when I do that in the cab, i can't imagine how loud that guys ears are rining!

The lengh of the muffler is almost 6 feet. That is almost from the start of the huump over the axel to the middle of the rear door. Which is already fairly close to the downtube from the turbo. I wasn't able to do any economy testing since I got it done the week before the fall brawl and bought a SPdeisel box when I was there.

If I ever buy another 3rd gen and it doesn't have it? I'm getting another!!

JApol: have you towed anything yet after getting the Silent Might onto your truck? I'm especially interested to hear if there's any drone in the 1800-2000 rpm range while towing under a load.

Thanks,

Steve

Did you install just the Silent Might or also another muffler in addition? Is you catalytic converter still in place?

And what happened to your truck?

The cat ins 'tstill in place but I have a race muffler from Jegs ready to go in. I went to a mom and pop place hoping they would be willing but they weren't The story if my truck is here https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141999 with the sp diesel box installed I can leave a good haze at 3/4 throttle but with a stock cooler and turbo that is still a little iffy. When at idle the exhaust has that freeflow hollow sound. It does tend to turn off most competition but doing so it saves fuel :D trust me you will not be disapointed

Edit: Sorry about any grammer but I have put down about 9 yuelings in about 3 hours, got plenty more to go.
