Competition Hot Rod VP44

For anyone intrested, I'm putting together a roll cage the will fit out trucks. The main hoop will be formed and the door bars and rear stabalizers will have the form in them. Just like any roll cage, holes will have to be cut in the floor board and the frame will have to be drilled. The cage will have to be welded by a professional welder, certified, to meet rules. You will need a small grinder to fit the joints. If you look at the regular cab, the point we need to install the main hoop is right on top of the body mount. That is the hard point to work. As per NHRA rules, the cage, at all points have to be welded to frame. That is critical. Tech will get you. I hae a plate made for that spot

I made the cage for Darren's truck and Brian said it was good, with 1 changes, so that's what I'm going with. Darren is good to 10 sec's.

I have a ball park price + shipping but as most of you know, steel prices have gone out of sight. Call or e-mail if you are intrested and I'll let you know what it is now. The no is 770-365-2713 or -- email address removed --. I'm working out of Garmon Diesel's shop for the present so I could be reached their also. 770-898-8585.

Let me know if I can help. Thanks

I'll get the pictures but the size does allow me to post. Now what do I do? The main parts are a main hoop, cross bar, 2 door bars, 2 rear bars, and 2 braces from main hoop to frame, behind the seat. Frame extensions at the front, at drivers feet are mounting points for the door bars. The swing out door bars are pretty but are not legal by NHRA rules. 7. 50 and slower.

Yeah Jim... ... Cutting the holes is not fun. Really though, a plasma cutter makes a hole that is very easy to cover. Cut exactly what size and shape you need. The largest is behind the seat where the mounting plates are located. These plates are bolted to the frame by 4, schedule 8, 1/2 inch bolts. The main thing is the carpet must come out for installation.

I'm going to try the pics.

preston I thought swing out doors were good for around 11 seconds dont have my rule book with me right now

if you want send me the pic and I can make it smaller for you George

The rule book says 11. 99 to 11. 0, roll cage attached to frame. Brian said 6 point... ... ... 7. 50 and slower can use swing out door bar. I do know the setup Dennis had in his Dodge is not legal buy the rule book. A very fine piece of work getting cut up. Not attached directly to frame . If the book reads differently I need to know. To get answers is sometimes very difficult. I try to call the folks that should know. That's what I'm going from. Really though, we are writting the rule as we go. Their are no rules to go by that really pertain to diesel. I think it's just all coming together. Eric is working hard to get it straight and I commend him for it.

And Rick, thank you for the kind words.

Preston if you read on down it says you can use swing outs down to 7. 50 in the 1/4 mile

but you are right the bottom of the swing bar has to be connected to the frame and the only way on are trucks is with an out rigger off the frame to bar

the dhra rules are perty much a cop of the NHRA rule book

not trying to flame or anything just tring to help I thank you could sell more with the swing out option

#ad

here is a pic of the out riggers on the lil red

I see. The rule is a little spotty there. OK, I'm corrected and glad of it. The swingout bar is really a neat thing. I know the cage on Dennis' truck was a work of love. Pretty .
