Just loaded my slide in truck camper yesterday Had to remove tailgate on truck of course. No rear camera. Just installed a aftermarket camera on the back of the camper above the door. Works awesome. Spendy but worth it if you don’t back into something I guess. Got my 2 inch receiver installed and the torq lift basket . Very nice for hauling 2200 w Honda and 9 gallons of gas. I get my ac and soft start installed next week and roof resealed and I’m ready to go. Life is good

It isn't that hard.
Easy Way: It is possible to use the OEM camera with the chassis cab kit. You need.
Pickup camera adapter 82215671AB to interface from the truck connector to the
user mountable camera (P/N 56038978AF) using either the
10 foot cable (P/N 68200274AA) or 30 foot cable (P/N 68239372AA).

Harder Way: I made my own adapter using the Tailgatee Wiring protector kit (P68149689AB). That is a bit of work as you have to source Delphi Molex 54002001 TERM MALE 18-20 AWG CRIMP pins. Then you have to disassemble the Protector kit and install the pins in the blow positions. (You need a good crimper for the pins as they are small to work with.)
Pin 1 Camera Signal
Pin 4 Camera Return
Pin 6 Run 12V
Pin 3 12V ground.

There a a couple down sides to the harder method.
1. Camera only works when truck in in run position. Doesn't work in the Accessory position like OEM does.
2. Camera is always powered on when the truck is running. It will only display when you either select reverse or use the EVIT controls to select it though.
3. The camera needs to provide grid lines and they do not turn like OEM does.

I tied mine into the factory display on the 12" screen. It works exactly like the factory tailgate camera. I bought 2 items:

- The cables and camera housing from M&R Electronics
- The factory tailgate camera, I got it on Ebay

Factory display 8 inch works great. Comes with long cord. I used industrial strength 3 m velcro and ran the cord around the ladder to the left of rear door and tie wraps and velcroed just above the door. Dead center No screw holes in camper. Easy to remove etc. I can see my stairs both rear out riggers. Will be awesome pulling a sno go trailer etc. I can’t see the hitch to far away and cover by the stairs

I like to jackknife my sno go trailer to the right so I can pull my stair down to use. I have hit the outrigger leg a bit a time or two. This will help a lot I think

Would be nice to wire in to the factory display if that is possible, I've thought about it for my 5er

This is one of the reasons I ordered the digital rear view mirror and tow-mode wired camera.

It will display on my rear view mirror, but at least I can always see behind the 5er.

Liking my camper on new truck setup 3500 ho aisin is a hauling machine. If your trying to decide 2500 or 3500 go big .Glad I did. Really liking new rear camera on camper. BUT wish I could make it stay on going down the road. Its on for 10-15 second when I push the rear camera on the screen. Then shuts off. Is there a way to make it stay on.That would be nice.

There isn’t a way I’ve seen.

You can have the camera come on when needed but requires a bit of work. You can put a switch in to give power to the camera with diodes to prevent reverse power flow. I have display in RR view mirror and will be placing a monetary push button switch that I can push with left foot to power on camera when I would want to see hitch or car behind me. So far I believe this will work from looking though wiring diagrams. Haven't had a chance to jump power yet to confirm.

What’s the benefit of the switch over just using the rear view camera button on the radio? I use the one on my radio all the time, the only bummer is that it times out but that’s not often an issue.

Why a floor switch over an aux switch?

That way I can just do a quick power on with foot versus taking hands of the wheel. Especially in an "Oh S!@T moment".

How many oh I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER moments have you had where you want to look behind you, but need both hands on the wheel? Just curious, seems pretty rare for cutting up a wire harness.

Doesn’t mean I’m not curious about the results. :D
