GENOS NEW OIL DRAIN PLUG

I believe I posted the response from Cummins on the correct filter to use on the 24V engine. I'm on my second LF3552 oil filter and have not had any problem. I ordered the LF3894 Strata-pore from Geno's garage and those go on at the next oil change and everyone after that. The LF3885 is the regular oil filter that can be used on the 24V engine. I have the response at home and will post it tonight.

Do any of you do oil analysis to compare filter and/or oil performance? I am curious, if filter "A" filters to a smaller micron level than filter "B," would show up on an oil analysis?

Amsoilman, I think you will find both Red Line Oil and Smokey Yunick in disagreement with your ratings of the synthetic base stocks, both of which regard the polyol ester base stocks as superior to ANY other!

John,
Go back and re-read my post. I was refering to the compatability of synthetic base stocks with petrolium base stocks. PAO's are more compatabil, as they are a direct decendent of petrolium.

Polyol Esters have many advantages in other areas as well.

1-Wide operational temerature range.

2- Hi (VI)Viscosity Index.

3-Excellent stability and solvency.

4- Outstanding lubricity.

5-Good compatability with mineral oils.

6-Excellent relative biodegradability.

7-Very low deposit formation.

Disadvantages are:

1-Compatability with some elastomers, paints, and polymeric materials.

2-Requires special additive formulations.

Now when you "blend" various synthetic base stocks together, thats a different story. One can come up with the best attributes of all, but it does cost more money to do this.

My . 02 cents.

John, How do you like your Edlebrock IAS shocks? I put em on my truck and I hate em. Way too stiff. especially in the rear. I had Rancho 9000s and loved the ride. With them set on #1 the truck rode as smooth as glass. Now Im bouncing all over... . lol

Amsoilman, sorry I misread your post concrening base stock compatability. As you figured, I thought you were refering to performance ratings of the various base stocks.

1968 Hurst HEMI Dart, I went with the Edelbrock IAS shocks for several reasons: 1) the patented IAS valving which allows the best balance (in MY opinion) of performance handling, and dampening for pot holes, train tracks, speed bumps etc. , 2) the legendary Edelbrock customer service that I had experienced for many years, 3) the money back guarantee if I wasn't completely satisfied (which I am... completely!), and, 4) the overall quality of the product. I have used MANY of Rancho's products (lift kits, 1000,5000,6000 and 7000 series shocks as well as most of their trick toys) in the past with less than satisfactory results. I have experienced several occasions of very poor customer service as well as poor product engineering. In all fairness, I have never used their 9000 series shocks. I quit purchasing their products about the time these were released on the market. I love the way my Ram handles with the Edelbrock IAS shocks; the IAS valving system as developed by Ricor, allows my 7000 + lb. Ram to handle better than ANY other truck I have ever owned! I was going to say driven as well, however, after rembering the several GMC Cyclones I have driven, that wouldn't be true.

Have a nice day Rammers! John

I had a Subaru with 287,000 miles on it when I traded it,and never added a drop of oil. Used Wal Mart oil. I drive a tractor and the company I work for is pretty much cutting edge on all aspects of maintenance. They use Sun non synthetic 15W-40. Their Fleet is 1350 Tractors. Nuff said.

If you use Rotella=T=15w-40 motor oil and Fleetguard oil filters. Your truck will run a long, long time. You can not beat the price. Number 5 Diesel for me.
