Actually, all you did was rinse your motor out with clean oil. I like kinda the idea, but I bet it did make a mess on the floor.

My brother owns a Transimission Repair Garage, he gets his ATF in 55 glln drums and inserts a valve and drains however many quarts he needs at a time--he was filling up his 4 quart drain can and the phone rang and he walk away and forgot



Funniest thing I ever saw--it lloked like a giant red pond. And you would have to see how he keeps his garage floor--DON'T SPILL ANYTHING, AND IF YOU DO GET THE MOP AND THE SPRAY BOTTLE OF CLEANER!!!!



He will never live that one down.



I started up a freshly rebuilt 440 in a '70 Challenger years ago and forgot to plug oil galley in back of block behind intake--man 100 lbs of oil preasure makes for a nice stream about the size of pensil shooting over 20 feet onto the wall

I did the same thing when working with my mom to de-winterize her motorcycle this spring. Told her to start pouring in the new oil (expensive Golden Spectro synthetic) and she had poured in close to three quarts when I just up and said STOP, STOP, STOP! Worst part was we had to wait two more days until the bike shop was open to get more oil because we were now one quart low! Doh! Synthetic oil sure is a PIA to pick up!

Go out and get some litty litter pour it over the oil and with flat soled shoes or boots twist and shout like a 50's dance and grind it into the oil. you will be amazed at the results when you sweep it up let us know of the improvement

I don't think I've ever forgotten the pan plug or filter or hose.



I did have a car that tried to commit suicide. My 75 Chevy Monza (Vega engined) would unscrew the oil filter in cold weather (as in below 0° F. ) and puke the contents of the pan on the parking lot. Luckily, I caught it early the first time. I learned to open the hood first, then start the engine, and scamper under the hood to hold the oil filter for the first minute or so.



I tried that ARCO graphite oil, ... . once. That is the blackest & stinkiest oil to get out of your clothes, hair, driveway, etc. The dragstrips use (used to?) Portland® Cement to absorb oil. I have great luck cleaning a dirty driveway with Simple Green. I spray it on heavily and wait for the next rain. It lifts and washes most of the stain away. If you're really ... fussy, use a can of engine cleaner.

I did one that took a while to figure out. I was changing the oil on a 90 mustang and replaced the filter. When I started the car I had a big oil leak. Kept trying to tighten the filter and finally gave up. I removed the filter to find out the old seal from the previous filter had stuck to the engine. Once I remove it all was well.

1955, 21 years old, just married, in the Navy. Household budget was pay the absolutely necessary bills, then buy the absolutly necessay groceries, fill the gas tank on the 1952 Pontiac, and literally have about $2. 50 till next payday. It is way past time, but finally got extra money together to buy oil and filter.

Just comming home from "work"--base, and decide to change oil while its HOT. Crawl under car with drain pan and wrench, remove plug-----holy, batman, that stuff is red. Suddenly realize I had pulled the transmission plug. There is no money to replace transmission fluid, so essential to get plug back in hot or not. Burned hell out of my hand, arm, face and chest,and covered with red transmission fluid, but got the plug back in for a loss of not much more than a quart.

New bride couldn't believe it when I walked in the door. The transmission just stayed a quart or so low till next payday. If I recall correctly, my monthly pay then was $285. and $40. of that went for car payment.
