I'm thinking about buying Rotella T in a drum. Seems like it would be good in gas engines also, but I don't know. Additive mix maybe wrong for gas engines, or something else? I appreciate any advice.

I check this forum everytime I log on.

Thanks, Tom

I have been working in the marine field on mega yachts for a long time so every time the engineer would change oil on gens and engines i would get the leftover rotella T and store it or change the oil in my wifes 98' chevy cavalier, i have used rotella T for the past 183000 miles in this chevy and still runs like a top except for a trani rebuild at 138000 miles. I run it in my Hayabusa motorcycle 48000 miles and the clutch plates come out cleaner than on other bikes that i service. I like it, seems to work for me.

Rotella T is also an SJ or SM api service. It can certainly be used in gassers. However, follow the manufactures advice on the weight. Using thick oil in a ford modular engine such as the 4. 6L V8, 5. 4L V8 and V10, will cripple fuel economy and starve the cams on cold startup. Chevy cavaliers were always happy with a thicker oil, kept them quieter and did not seem to do too much to the fuel economy. My old 74' dodge w200 w/360 ran fine on it, but it blew an oil filter off the block one 7 degree night.

Try Bob Is The Oil Guy for any oil questions. You will learn more than you ever wanted. The nice part of the website is that you can find out what oil works best in what engine. Top shelf, high dollar oils don;t always yield a good wear in certain engine. Mobil 1 works wonders on some engine but caused accelerated wear in others over regular cheap oils.

One more time. This is the best $35 I ever spent. Thanks for the help. Nothing like experience for answering questions.

Forddiesel; Thanks for the link. and thanks to all for the advice.

On edit: Matt. I rode a CBX for 3 years. It scared the ***** out of me several times a year before it nearly removed my rt leg at the knee. It would only do about 150. Would it do any good to tell you to be careful? Stay safe.

My cousin used to run a high-end repair garage. (Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari, etc. ) He used Rotella exclusively, and really liked it as a break-in oil.

i run the delo 400 15w40 i use in the cummins in my bmws and it's great, whips the crap out of castroil, the typical noisey aluminum head and solid valve train of the old motors is quieted down a amazing amount, this holds on several different old bmws some with 200+k miles some with fresh all new parts rebuilds

Just like above I use it in everything. I priced out a 55 gallon drum verses buying it by the case of 4 1 gallon jugs and it was about 20 cents a gallon more to buy it by the case than in a drum. last time ii checked it was 16. 00 a gallon in a drum and 16. 20 a gallon in a case

regarding15/40 oil

we have a 1986 new yorker with a 2. 5 4 cyl in it . we've had it since 1994 and have put approximently 250,000 kilometers on it(about 140,000 miles) on it, and all it has ever had in it is 15/40 oil. penzoil for about 8 years and walymart 15/40 for the last 5 years approximently. had the pan off last year due to the car going airborne while my son was driveing it to install a brand new pan. the inside of the moter was spotless and had no sludge in the pan at all. the car had 65000 kilometers on it when we bought it in 94. still going strong at 200,000 miles.

Rotella 15/40 oil

I run it in my 73 F150 with a 390 and it works great!

I've also run it in my 400 Husaberg dirt bike after reading an article from Dale Linaweaver ( the top Husaberg tuner to date). He runs Delo 400 in his race engines and when asked about Rotella T said it should work fine.

When putting on lots of miles with the Kenworth, I bought it in 55 gal barrels, used it in everything. At that time, Sams club sold the barrels for far less a gallon than anyplace else. I just drained it into the gallon Rotella jugs I had, so I could carry it in the big truck.

For the last 12 years I have run RotellaT in all of my gas motors. The 96 V-10 for over 120,000 miles and have never had an oil relaited failure. The only problem I experienced was when the oil was first changed the smell was pretty noxious.

I also use Rotella in my antique cars also

I have 1911 Ford,33 Ford,39, that I use Rotella 15-40 and works very well. My 95 and 06 use the same oil. I should buy Rotella in the 50 gallon barrel at Sams. Been thinking about it lately. I would not use anything else in my antique cars and trucks.

Kenneth, this thread has turned out to be a good one. Good info from everybody, but man! your pictures made my day.

Thanks very much, Tom

Be warned that if you start runing any diesel oil in a high milage sludge filled engine it will plug oil filters all the time as the high detergent content in the diesel oil cleans extremely well.

That was part of the reason that I had run it in so many vehicles. The 96 Gasser at 3K miles on the oil, is still transparent, even with 170,000 on the motor. My 67 New Yorker with the HO 440 did not suffer from the piston and valve carboning that the 440's normally suffered with. It had 52,000 original miles on it. Had an 85 Suburban Big block with 100K on the clock and for the next 100K it got Rotella T 15-40 every 3K with great results. All of my Gassers got 3K oil changes like clockwork.

Hmmm. So what would happen if I ran, say 2 qts of 15W-40 and 2 qts of 5W-30 in a 4 cylinder gasser that holds (you guessed it) 4 quarts?
