you can "suck" out the fluid if you want too.

Sky, your not off base,,,,

just to point something out. .

in my earlier days I used to work on toyota 4x4 with straight axles front and back.

They had a removable 3rd member like a ford 9" rear.

there were no covers to remove.

Nicely enough toyota put a drain plug in the rear. But if some one demolished the lower drain plug ... I used to use a diff oil gun to remove and add the new fluid (it was easier to pump it in with the oil gun -looks like a big grease gun but with a 1/4 hose on it- then trying to squirt it in from the bottle with they way the yota's axles were).

So you dont have to remove the covers if you dont mind sucking the fluid out with one of these $40 guns... powered by armstrong push pull and dont try it in the winter...

It's just not as complete as popping the cover or getting a maghytech cover :D

I do not even know what the owners manual is and need help adding fuel- you all are ahead of me- I just bend over and give mine to the dealer- I was told that my auto had a Dana 80 out back I just know it looks real big

Once again, slowly, for those that don't understand... ... ... ... . this is a forum for Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesels.

Period.

There are no "stupid" questions, because if the answer was known, it would not have been asked. Tell people what you do know, not what they don't know, and you will be heard.

The "Other" forum should be deleted; it fosters the childish, disgusting personal attacks found in CTD forums by getting off the subject. The "Other" forum ought to be a link to the Oprah show in a galaxy far, far, away... ... ... ... . so everyone else can turn down the chatter and listen to the important clatter.

And no, my comments should not be in the "Other" forum; I keep smelling something on my boots when I know I wiped my feet.

Why don't you add a drain plug??

When I pulled my diff cover the first time I took it to a welding shop with a drain plug and a nut. He drilled a hole in the cover, welded the nut to the outside and I never had to pull the cover again... ... ... until I installed the mag-hytec. It has a drain plug.

lubes,gears and such

Scott Hendren,

You are correct. The front diff. is a Dana #60 and the rear is a Dana #70 both with the 3. 54:1 gear ratio. All automatic trucks have this combination if I'm not mistaken here. . The Dana 80 rear ends are used in the 5 and 6 speed trucks(2500/3500 series).

On the lube quantities:Rear end is about 3-4 qts. with stock cover

Front is about 3-4 qts. also stock cover

Transfer case is just about 3 qts of ATF

I changed all mine except the engine and 6 speed box over to Amsoil around 2,000 or so miles. And added the rear Mag Hytec 80 cover which then brought up the lube fill to around 7 1/2 qts.

Hope this helps you my friend. Oh,on the friction modifier, you only need it if you have a Limited Slip rear, forgot what Chrysler calls it. The front diff. does'nt need any.

Phil

The sticker under your hood will tell you if you have limited slip.

DOWG, while I agree with most of what you said eliminating the Other forum is like telling folks they can't read fiction, only technical manuals. If you don't like the other forum don't read it instead of advocating censorship on folks that do.
