Was getting out of the truck last night at the ambulance barn and the Fiancee is getting out the other, all of a sudden I hear a the tinny sound of a can landing on the ground followed the sickening hiss as all of it's contents are sprayed out all over everything. I knew that the only can that could have fallen out was one of Black spray paint I had bought recently to touch up the bumpers. Sure enough I walk around to the passenger side and it looks like I have been out mudding in a tar pit. Of course the door was open and so the inside of the windshield has gotten it along with the dash and the majority of the door sill areas. What a mess. Fortunately I have a very good woman and after five hours of scrubbing we had managed to clean it up to the point that there is only about four or five spots that show up and they are all in hard to reach areas around the door hinges and are not that visible anyway. We used Simple Green and Orange Blast and both worked very well. The Orange Blast was just a little bit better at loosening up the paint as it got drier. When this happened it also got all over my friends camper that was parked up there. Fortunately it came off of that even easier than the truck. I was very thankful we were able to clean up that mess. I was about heartsick when it first happened, thinking about having to get it fixed if we couldn't get it cleaned off. Anyway this is mostly a note of appreciation for my girl. Not alot of them would spend five hours cleaning up a truck and then take it well when you give them a hard time about their brand new jeans and tennis shoes that are now black since she was standing in the center of the whole spray when it busted open. The only loss is that we just could not seem to get it out of the grooves on the running boards. I am contemplating either painting them black or trying to use a wire brush or something and then repolishing. Possibly I may just buy a new set. Unfortunately I don't have time or the money to get back to it this week, so it will just have to hold for a while.

Just be thankful it wasn't the sound of transmission gears again :(

on the rubber parts, just use some paint stripper on it. Then follow that with a water hose.

Keep the stripper away from any real paint you want to keep though ;)

At least today I can laugh about it. By the way, she said there is no way she was taking one for the team. I guess I just don't understand women. :-laf

Enamel Reducer

Enamel Reducer will remove spray paint if it is enamel based paint without doing any damage to your factory finish. I have removed spray paint this way from vandalized cars in the past, works great!!! :p

I think we managed to get it all off except for some crevices around the door hinges, but it is nothing you see. The paint was Rustoleum or however you spell it. Gloss black. The only area I still see that needs some work is on the stainless steel running boards.

For the spray paint residue on your SS running boards I would suggest rubbing it off with a rag soaked with a hot solvent like xylene or the paint remover 'Goof-off', both of which can be found at Home Depot. Be sure to wear PVC gloves when handling a hot solvent such as those two and don't get it on your bare skin, ESPECIALLY if you're sweating and your pores are open.

I ran over a can of flourecent paint a couple of years ago in my dually. Good thing it was going in the shop the next day to fix a dent and rocker shutz the rockers.

CM, I've followed your posts over the last couple years. Just a quick question -

Do you post about ALL your luck

or

Just your bad luck? :p

Just kiddin' I'm glad you got it cleaned up. :-laf

Glad to hear you got it cleaned up.

Years ago @ a place I worked we had a guy who would open spray cans on a wooden bench in one quick woop!I told him he shouldn't do that(i thought he might break the nozzle off) well he keep doin it,wouldn't listen to alot of other stuff we told him too. Well one day he did it & ended wearing a whole new can of black enamel on his face, shirt, pants, hands, shoes, the wall, workbench & floor.

That was enough humor for the day & when we looked at the can we found he pulled the whole center section out.

So open them cans w/a screwdriver!

This happened to me too. Was working on my dad's 79' F150. This is the year that they had a whole counter to lay stuff on. Anyways we laid a can of paint up there but forgot about it when we closed the hood. Well the hinge came down and sliced a 3 inch hole in a split second. Flat black everywhere. The benefit of a junker work truck..... to this day the paint hasn't moved on its own. ;)
