FYI
I owned a 83 6. 2 in a 4x4 half ton. Gotta say it was a good engine to me. Tuff bottom end so-so pumps. Mine was an EGR model so I plugged off the egr supply tubes and put an HD manifold on (2 hr project) This really made it breath better. I also put a set of bosch injectors into it. This thing purred like a kitten and worked well in the half ton. It had a 4 spd with over drive (stock side mount Hurst shifter, reverse up by the steering wheel). At about the 200k mark it developed an extra knock. Drove that way for about a year till I used a stethoscope and figured where it was coming from, pulled the head everything was fine. Pulled the pan and dropped #1 piston, it had a broken skirt. replaced it and put back together. As for the inside wear s- non-nothing- denada!. Original hatch marks on the cylinder wall, original machining on the piston and and no signs of wear on the rod bearing. This engine seemed to wear well. Truck had oil/filter change every 3500 miles. I owned this truck for 18 years and never walked once. I think in a half ton application it can be a good engine.
