Today me and my buddy with a 1st gen where rippin around the streets and i saw a guy with a dark silver CTD laramie truck and i went right next to him and gave him a chin nod. The guy gave me a look like i had 5 eyes... . I guess he doesnt know what tdr is. I noticed he lives a couple blocks over (dad told me) i think i should go put a paper under his windsheild wiper on saying TURBODIESELREGISTER. COM . This truck looks nice. hes got 285 bfg's on it with aluminum wheels. Everything else looks stock. do you guys think i should do the wiper thing?

In the late 1960's I drove a beat-up old Corvette, (And yes, don't I wish I still had it!!!) Anyway, at that time ALL Corvette drivers waved at each other. It was something that just happened.

OK... flash forward 30 years... I get my Green/Silver '95 Dodge/Cummins and the first guy I see driving another Dodge/Cummins I wave real big and flash him a grin and he just stares at me. OK... I thought, the guy must be a sourpuss. The next Dodge/Cummins I saw, I was parked in a Home Depot parking lot and the guy parks about 3 spaces away with no cars between us. I was idling my truck and he was idling his truck and so I shut mine off and walked over and walked right up to his window and said something about the Cummins. He looked at me like I was crazy and said he hadn't even noticed I was driving a D/C. So much for camraderie! So I don't much wave at D/C's anymore. But then I found this site, and there is more than enough camraderie here to go around!

I'm from Texas, so I wave and nod to damn near anybody I make eye contact with... ;)

but, I generally get the most response from CTD owners that have modified trucks... the guys with stock trucks generally just don't get it...

but I have noticed a LOT more comraderie amongst truck owners versus different cars I've owned in the past...

I try to wave and knod to other Cummins owners but honestly DAMN near every around here puts that finger up. I cant help but feel most of the finger wavers wouldn't stop TO help someone if hell froze over. I mean guy after guy. There are times I'm NOT in the mood for all tha or got Things on my mind. Some of these guys I see doing this I know of or about and I wouldn't stop to help them if they were road hit. Sorry just telling it like it is. I come from a eta that the only time I put a finger up it wasn't the one all those guys are using.

I'll 2nd the corvette thing. I used to own a 1974 splittail vet. I would have to say that at least 3/4 of any vette I past, the driver and I would go out of our way to give a thumbs up or a wave. It was like an unwritten rule that you just had to do. Kind of like a club.

When I got my first Dodge Cummins, I was filled with the same type of pride as a had with my corvette -- possibly more. So off I go giving thumbs up to other Ram owner -- rarely was the gesture returned. Now I don't wave unless I see a TDR badge or unless they wave to me.

Should you do the wiper thing? If I were you I would walk up and talk to him the next time you see him. Tell him all the great things about TDR and if he is not interested. Then thats his loss, I feel like it's my duty to spread the word about us. :D

Yeah, it's a Jeep thing...

I hate that saying, but it's true. most All swb jeepers wave at eachother. I find myself waving at jeeps even when I'm driving the truck. Unfortunately there aren't alot of CTDs around here, compared to powerpukes, they must have us outnumbered 20-1 around here

DPKetchum

DPKetchum, you are my neighbor! I live near big ole Neese Community and the closest actual "town" to me is that big ole thriving metropolis of Ila!!! I sent you a PM. Come join us tonight and check out several other local Dodge/Cummins trucks (as well as a couple gasser Dodges and a Harley!)

I am sure we have waved at each other, especially since our trucks are nearly identical!

I buy most of my fuel and beer at Neese Grocery. See lots of Dodge/Cummins round here!!

DieselNut59

I travel to Atlanta on business from time to time. Where are you guys in relation to ATL?

(sorry to get off topic).

I've pretty much given up. Most CTD owners, I'm convinced, are clueless... . always shut down hot, etc. , even some who have pillar guages I can see. On the few occassions I've engaged someone in conversation, the deer in the headlight stare is just too much to overcome because their base line knowledge level is so low.

I would just take it for what it is, you tryed to be friendly and it wasn't wecome, so what. That shouldn't deter you from waving at the next CTD you see. Everyone is different, some are friendly and others are not. That was one of he biggest turn-offs I had about the Dodge and the Cummins engine, there seems to be alot of stuffy, arrogant owners running around. It's a shame too, they don't know what they are missing out on. I enjoy talking to people, And I love filling up, I almost always find someone to talk to. I have had simular "bad" experiances as you describe, and it does make for an odd moment, but I don't let it affect me. And you shouldn't let it affect you, the world would be a much nicer place it more of them took the time to wave and talk. I have meet some really nice people, and a few not so nice ones, but it's ok. I feel more sorry for them then mad, they have no ideal what they are missing out on, and when you incounter a "bad apple", it just makes you aware of how nice the other ones are.

Jeez guys, they're mass produced trucks, not some specialized vehicle like a 'vette or a tricked out Jeep. I don't go waving at every Dodge truck I see, but if I saw someone with a TDR (or Pirate4x4. Com ;) ) sticker I'd be sure to wave.

Well I'm glad to see this thread. I always try to wave at other Cummins owners, and sometimes even the 1/2 ton guys. Once, just once, I got a friendly response. I've never been flipped off, but normally they just look at me like I'm not even worth the effort required to use their eye muscles to look in my direction. You know, that disgusted "what is your problem, brainless?" look.

It happened again just this morning. I was beginning to think I'm so horribly ugly that the sight of me just turns peoples stomach. Good to know I'm not the only one this happens to. On the other hand, maybe we're all just really really ugly!?:-laf

rbattelle,

I always try to extend the "good right hand of friendship" to others in need or a friendly wave going down the road.

We ain't ugly and it's not most of us that use the high sign just for the hell of it, but like the saying goes, "it's just a sign of the times" I guess.

Shucks, I think I just dated myself.

If I see a guy checking out my truck I'll give him a nod or if he's got a cool truck I'll give him a nod. I try to strike up conversations at the pump, never had a bad experience yet. Anyways to the reason I quoted this, you made me curious by the specialized vehicle comment so I took a ride on the google express and here is what I found From 1968 to 1982 there were 542,861 Corvettes made, now I know that they were made from 1953 to present but this is the information I found. Now for the ever common Dodge Ram Cummins from 1989 to 2000 there were a whopping 734,421 made. Now the first year there were only 16,750 Cummins powered rams made and by 2000 there was 116,000 so I am sure the numbers are climbing fast but for that little piece of time the numbers aren't that much different. Just thought I'd give a little bit of trivial information.

I get more PSDs to wave at me than I do Cummins. I don't really way at Duramax guys. But I do wave at all the Jeep guys.
