There are a bunch of scams going around involving the internet, vehicle sales and cashiers' checks.
There have been a fair number of conterfeit cashiers checks floating around, and this is how the scammers have been normally opertaing. They will say they have someone that owes them money that will send a cashiers check to you for more than the maount you wnat for item bike, parts etc send it to them deduct the shipping and send them the remaider via Western Union. Well by the time the check comes back bad (most checks accept cashiers check as good and give you acces to money upon deposit) and your bank retracts deposit you are out your item, the shipping fees and the "balance" of the cashier check.
Now there is a flip side to this highly sought item listed for sale with pictures (many are internet available pics like sales ads or magazine pics) for real low price. The seller will want to "protect" you by using an escrow service. You send money there and product never arrives, well escrow company was a shill for the seller and they had no product even for sale.
these are two that plaguing the motorcycle industry right now in addition to the Nigerian 419 scams. The first normally involves Nigeria but other countries have been destination.
plus the just plain counterfeit cashier's checks for the amount of purchase. Keep your eyes open and be aware of who you are dealing with.
