At your Cummins Dealer

I have one ordered at Cummins Northwest here in Portland. They're backordered - and are suppose to be in shortly. They have been making these for Motorhomes as those folks don't want oil spots on their towed Lexus..... or whatever. This is kinda spendy - in the neighborhood of $180.

where does it route the return?

Hammersley,

Did you receive your Enviroguard yet? It was hard to tell from the pictures you posted to tell where the return line ties back in at. Turbo oil return line perhaps? Either way it looks like a real nice product and a lot easier to install then TSB 09-002-02. :D Please let me know your thoughts on the product as I have also been considering one. The Brochure should be here in the next couple days. I couldn't get there website PDF to open so I appreciate your posting the scanned brochure.

I installed one of these about a week ago. Fairly straight forward install, the instructions cover it all. The only pain was trying to get the frost plug out where the drain tube goes into the block, by the casting number there is a frost plug above the oil pan. I have an auto so of course the cooler lines were kind of in the way.

To early to tell yet, will let you all know if I still get build up on the front of the engine.

where did you purchase it at

I bought it from Cummins NW in Anch cost was $201. They ordered it up from the Portland warehouse. Took about a week to get here and about 1. 5 hr to install due trying to get at that plug.

Would this also get rid of the rotella smell? I assumed it would by scanning the setup but wasn't sure. I smell rotella after oil changes up to a couple of thousand miles after and it's getting a little old. My truck doesn't lose or drip any oil but losing that smell alone would be worth the $180.

Update

No oil drip yet or sludge on the front of the engine. Seems to work so far as advertised. I'm assuming it's a 2nd gen version of what is used on the new 03 and 04 trucks.

I installed it also:

I had moved the bottle to the torsion bar last year and had a sock zipped tied around the bottle and I finely got tired of changing the sock and cleaning the bottle and the blow by on the under side etc.

I purchased it from Rocky Mountain Cummins for around $175. 00, worth every cent and was easy to install too. The drain connects to the extra dip stick hole on the drivers side. I read that to get the plug/cap out was a pain, but it was really easy to pop out with a long, thin flat screw driver. Just an easy tap with a small hammer from the underside.

I wish I had installed this five years ago. ::):):)

Another example of DC trying to save a few $#@$%!

I know you tried to do a good job explaining BUT

I haven't looked at the port in a long time... ... isn't it located facing "UP"? So how do tou tap with the hammer from underneath?? I think I know - but not sure.....

Oh, I am buying this, as soon as possible. I wish I had known about this sooner. I get that Rotella smell too for about a week or two, after I change my oil, and it gives me a headache.

Yes, it is facing up.

I read your post this AM and then eyeballed it today, It is just above and slightly behind the 4th oil pan bolt from the front. I saw a heavy wire loom against the pan/block and I had to move it away to see the drain connection point.

I put one of these on about 3 years ago and got rid of the oil catch bottle. It won't get rid of the smell like signal73 said but you won't have the drain bottle anymore and it doesn't drip oil on the ground either. It is probably what Cummins/Dodge should of had on these trucks from the factory. The little soft plug was loctited in with red loctite from the factory and I tried the little screw driver and a small cape chisel, but I couldn't get under the little top-hat flange of the plug. It pealed the soft metal and the plug wouldn't lift up. I talked to the Cummins West shop foreman and he said they always pulled the vacuum and power-steering pumps off and punched a hole in the plug and then used a small screw and slide hammer to pull it out. Before I tried the pump removal I found that an 8mm bolt would almost thread into the plug. I took an 8mm bottom tap and cut some shallow threads into the plug and then took an 8mm bolt that was about 1-1/2" long and threaded it into the plug, then from under the truck I used a 3 lb. hammer and an 18" chisel under the head of the bolt and drove it up pulling the plug with it. This has worked for a couple of people but there have been variances in the soft plugs and this hasn't worked for everyone. You can only get about 3 threads into the plug but the side load of the chisel against the head of the bolt seemed to give it enough bind/bite into the plug to grab it. I did extend the vapor hose 18" down in front of the pwr-steering box and below the frame rail , because after a year or so I noticed that the vapor would cause some dust build up on top of the steering box. Now the vapor is out of the engine compartment, but it does not drip oil. I'm real happy with it.
Regards, Mike.

:confused:You put one of what in 3 years ago? I thought the enviroguard channeled the oil back to the motor and eliminated the need for a vapor hose to be extended anywhere???
