Were is bio diesel sold??

Canola for Biodiesel

feed

Hello Mark

What I am thinking is gravity feed in to the centrifuge then pump it in to a holding tank.

55 gallon drum with a 1/2 or 3/4 ball valve to slow the flow and then a sump pump from a collection box under the unit. the oil needs to be heated to around 120 degs so solar heat or band heater on drum for heat. might even solar power the sump pump. need to use less power or start making my own.

The parts for the centrifuge are shipping today should have them next week then I will start making the unit, lots of crazy ideas running in my brain.

would think if the oil is put thru slow the water would have to be spun out of it this will take some time to get it right.

Hello Mark

The parts are comming from the company in the post water removal.

Unless I win the lottrey I will not be able to buy a comerical one ,the starting price for a small one runs around $25000 and up from there.

I will post (not sure if it need it own or not )of the build and the results of the finnished unit.

I just found out of a farmer close to me that is grownig saflower to make in to fuel. this might be some thing that will help him clean and process his oil also.

Mark, I'm just getting into blending using Cj's formula but was wondering what your thoughts might be regarding the use of HEET or it's diesel counterpart (ISO-HEET) as an added security against water in wvo. I *think* the mfgr recommends 1 bottle ($1. 85) per 30 gal so cost wouldn't be horrific.

and to recap, your (Schur's) formula consists of wvo/rug/ISO. Are you still running the same ratio? Thanks, Tom.

Hello Tom

Mark is not Posting on TDR at this time but I did ask him about his blend this is the email I recieved on 11/19/2007

[ Hi Craig,

Still blending. I haven't changed things much since we last talked. When the isopropyl ran out I switched to E85 and kept the ratios about the same as typical for Schur's ecofuel: 80% WVO, 15%RUG, 5%ETOH. Actually, through the summer it was 10%RUG...

I mix in a 55Gal drum, so it's typically 5gal RUG, 3gal E85, 32oz PowerService, 32oz Mock DSE (your blend), fill with WVO to make 50gal.

Since it's getting colder, I may bring the RUG up to 15% with the next batch - I notice the lift pump working pretty hard to keep the pressure up on the far side of the filter first thing in the AM, and a little more blue smoke for the first 60 seconds or so while things get up to temp at startup.

I can run the above blend almost straight in the summer, and occasionally blend in some heavy mineral oil I get from a utility company repair depot (transformer/switch oil).

I'm running 50-70% blend now, balance is ULSD.

Oil change intervals 5k, using the Statapore filters from Cummins and Rotella synthetic for diesels (good price at Wal-Mart, and plenty good for that change interval).

Still amazing how much quieter things run on the blend than on ULSD alone!

The adding of the ISO Heat should not hurt anything. but if you are dewatering and using a good waterblock filters with the veg oil you should not need this. again these are my thoughts.

more on fuel

Craig,

Here is my answer to Tom's question. You can post the other wherever you'd like if it makes sense to do so.

Thanks,

Mark

Tom - if you're not blending I'd not bother with HEET. Most systems have a decent water-in-fuel trap that manages just fine if drained faithfully.

If you are wanting to blend, I'd start with what cj is doing and consider experimenting from there if you're not satisfied or curious. It'll give you a good "baseline" for comparison. After I'd been blending for some time, someone mentioned (and it's still out there) an article by Robert Bosch regarding problems they'd encountered which appeared to be caused by alcohols interacting with internal parts in the CP3 (our high pressure fuel unit in the 03 and newer engines) pump. Same may be true for the older VP44 and 'P' pumps I suppose. I've not gone beyond 5% and haven't encountered problems in a year, so I'm not anticipating any at this point. Still, it's best to be prudent and start with a known, proven, and relatively safe blend (cj's "DSE").

My thoughts!

Regards,

Mark

Hey Cj, thanks for checking that out for me. Before I got your mix, I thought I read that HEET was being used in blending. a store had it on sale for $1/bottle so I bought 10. I'll probably use a little and see what happens. maybe. Tom.
