There are a couple of ways to go... . Blue Chip Diesel has a neat little replacement cover for the VP44, that pierces the wire in a very unobtrusive location...
TST Products has a new connector also, that works great... .
What's wrong with the "needle" connector supplied by Edge? It actually doesn't leave any trace... I had mine off after 50,000 miles with it on there, and it took me ten minutes to find the original hole, even with a good flashlight.
Be aware that any box will leave telltale patterns in the ECM, that a very savvy mechanic can bring out, if he notices any abnormalities... it's not likely to happen, but is a possibility, in the bigger, more expereinced dealerships...
A "Scotchlok" ??? Is that what Edge is supplying now? If it is an actual brand-name, honest-to-god Scotchlok, made by 3M, or any other imitators, DO NOT USE IT ! It will not give you a good electrical connection, and may even ruin the wire.
I was under the impression that Edge was supplying their original "needle" connectors. A little black two piece plastic thing, with a wire ? That's not a Scotchlok! I vote we call it an "Edge Connector" , to prevent confusion with inferior products.
And, BTW, I may work for 3M, but it's not in a division that makes that junk. 99% of the rest of what 3M makes is fantastic.
