Scotty 2 question

I got a Scotty 2 for my truck. I'm still trying to get all the right parts together, but I have a couple questions. First, there's a hat that goes on the end of the Uni filter. How is that thing supposed to stay on there? It doesn't fit snugly enough to just push on and have it stay there. It keeps falling off when I go to put the filter in the housing. Second, is there supposed to be a grommet that goes in the firewall to make a seal between it and the housing? I've heard good things about the Scotty, and I want to use it. I just want to make sure I get it installed right. Thanks for any help.

The wife wasn't crazy about the whistle of the Scotty II when towing. I bought a TAG which tamed the turbo whistle. The TAG II came out later and was never tested in my truck. The TAG made no performance difference. This was on my 96'.

The hat doesn't fit snug until the filter is forced into the housing. The cone will be kept rigid between the filter and the plastic filter case. Just balance it on top of the filter and push it into the case; once the base of the filter clears those little notches at the base of the case, that will keep enough load on it to 'lock' the cone cap in place. I did not have a grommet for the firewall in my box.

Just go somewhere that sales trailer lights like for a tractor trailer and buy

a rubber Gromet that goes on a trailer light fits perfect I paid $1. 87 for mine. Oo.

The cowl hole gromet is a 4" or 4. 5" rubber grommet from a semi-truck rear light. You can find them at most Napa stores or any truck supply place. It makes the hole you cut in the cowl look finished and helps seal the end of the scotty.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll visit my local friendly NAPA store for the grommet. I'm looking forward to getting the Scotty installed. Seems like a great idea for getting cooler air for the engine, and I like the turbo whistle. Scotty should let me hear that pretty well, especially with no silencer ring.

I've had my clear scotty/Uni combo for around 2 years now. I like it pretty good. I am also silencer-ring-less. I kinda wish mine was louder. Once you get used to it, its not bad. The odd thing is, my turbo whistle goes away between like 22psi and 40psi. so when towing up long, steep hills, I dont hear it anyways.

I didnt really notice much of an egt difference on mine, but mine is way to overfueled for the turbo anyhow. Im sure it helped. I also noticed no mileage or power gain, nor a gain in spool.

But the sound made it worth the $$, and I love the fact that its clear so you can see when to clean it.



I use PJ1 filter oil, and Permatex white hand cleaner from autozone to clean it. I just oil up the end real well when putting that cone on, the PJ1 kinda helps keep it in place.



For the grommet, I just took some 5/16" fuel line, sliced it, and lined the edge of the hole with it. works great.
