Ok guys I'm getting picked on for using a stock air box (hi flow filter) with an phat shaft 66. Okay so I deserve it, but which intake? The Scotty 5 is almost 200 cheaper, though without a "tube". Cool Blue hose is about a 100 bucks so the Scotty is still about 100 cheaper than the AFE.

C'mon oil heads let me know what my backwards *** should do. :D

The Scotty 5 is what I decided to get, I don't think you could go wrong with either one though. Being enclosed I think the Scotty 5 is better protected from what little rain that we get here in Nevada.

Having said that, I have absolutley no regrets with my choice of filtration. Oo.

let us know how the scotty worked out for you.

Well I know the more I drive with it the more I like it. The improvent in throttle response is much better than I ever expected. Oo.

I plan to do an oil analysis to check for silicon. I'm not worried, I'm sure it will be fine. I have spoken with other Scotty owners about their oil analysis #'s and they have ranged from 5-7. :D

I've got a scotty air 5 on the way, the unit looks very good, installed how much does it help with your EGT?

And what is that mounted right in front of the intake horn, looks like a little pump of some type?

I just put my Scotty 5 on an hour ago. I decided to go with it because I have heard of some problems with fit on the AFE, plus the Scotty is much cheaper. .

I just drove it around the block so I can't say much as to the egt's, mileage increases, or throttle response. I can say that I am disappointed in the amount of turbo noise ( or lack of). . Not a problem, but I was hoping to make it scream and I can't tell any difference at all really.

As far as the trouble with install on the AFE that I heard about, none of that here. The Scotty is about as easy as it gets. . Like I said, I can't speak to the performace just yet, but I give it high marks on quality and ease of installing.

RMalone I think you will be pleased with the Scotty 5. My Juice/Attitude shows intake air temp, and I have seen a 10°-20°F reduction when I'm out on the open road.

The EGT'S have dropped about 50°-100°F, these temps were noted after I drove 500 miles. Please note I have not towed anything very heavy yet.

I'm not too sure that the Scotty has helped my fuel mileage, it does seem that it has stayed the same, but I may have gotten my first tank of winter blend fuel though.

Is there any information on the Uni filter? How does it compare to the proguard 7 in filtering capability?

I have spoken to couple very trustworthy people (JSteiger) that use the Scotty filter with the Uni Filter and their silicon #'s have never been over 7. This is good enough for me. :D

I have 500 miles till my next oil change. I will be doing an oil analysis on the next lof and I will post my results just as an fyi.

LOL I'm dissapointed about the lack of noise as well. I have my silencer ring mia too. :-laf

I forgot to answer this part of your post.

That is the compressor for my Pac-Brake. :D

I appreciate the input Rankram your posts to this thread were informative as usual. I'm still waiting for UPS to deliver mine I will post when I get some comparison numbers for EGT and seat of pants on the sps 66 spool-up with the Scotty 5. Next I need a FASS and then a dyno run. :D

Okay, Scotty air 5 arrived today, very easy install everything looks great. Problem is egt is UP about 75deg F. with the TST on 5hp,3tq at WOT. With the stock box (holes drilled in the box and K&N drop in filter) I would see about 1300-1325 max (measured with a SPA gauge pre-turbo). With the Scotty air 5 I see 1375-1400.

I will be removing the Scotty tommorrow morning and trying to exchange it for a stage 2 AFE. I have no problem with the fit and finish of the Scotty, and I'm sure it filters fine. However I bought it for one reason only, EGT REDUCTION, and evidently I got the opposite. As far as responsivness and turbo spool-up I notice no difference versus the stock box w/K&N. Obviously I have not driven with the Scotty enough to comment on milage, but milage wasn't my objective anyway.

I'm not trying to bad mouth Scotty's products at all, many people have had excellent results with them and frankly I'm shocked at MY results given all the good things I have read.

RMalone did you take the protective plastic bag off the filter before your test run? :-laf

I'm sorry you didn't see the results that I have.

Be sure to let us know how the stage 2 AFE works for you.

I finally logged some miles with my new Scotty 5. . I don't really see a difference in EGT's. They seem to be a little cooler when letting off the fuel, but about the same under power. Certainly not hotter. It seems to be inconsistant, so my jury is still out on the egt's.

I did notice that my overhead was at 19 mpg tonight at the end of a run that usually nets upper 17's or low 18's. .

Overall I'm satisfied. I wasn't expecting a miracle from a new air filter so it's cool... Is it worth the price??? Ummm... probably, if the mileage improvement is consistant. I guess all these aftermarket intakes are overpriced a bit for what they do, but what isn't.

Good points Coolslice, Just as I decide to ditch the Scotty for afe stage 2, I see another thread about melted turbo boots, so I will stick with the scotty for awile and give it a chance. Or maybe back to the stock box with holes.
