I had my SCR recall done this week. I haven't really noticed any change in performance but I haven't driven it a lot yet. The other thing I wanted to ask was the "spark knock" sound issue. When I dropped it off at the dealer I explained to the service writer in great detail what was that i heard. When I got the first call the mechanic tried to blame it on the tail pipe hitting the coil spring at the rear of the truck!
Needless to say I was a little twisted that this was the reason he gave for the sound! I will be the very first to admit I am NOT a mechanic but i have worked on a few vehicle in my life and I can tell where and what the sound is. so I took him for a test drive to let him hear it for himself. I go to pick it up and he says he has no idea what the sound is for sure and didn't think it was the turbo. I told him about this web site and all he had to do was a google search and a ton of info would come up. Well he said he called RAM service techs for help and to make an appointment in three weeks and would see what he could do?

I honestly think this is a crock of crap! The sound seems to be getting worse. Again I am no mechanic but it seems like he is either incompetent or is trying to dodge ( no pun intended) the issue! Thoughts?

thanks Tim

Tim, the problems is that most mechanics out there now aren't trained or capable in diagnostic repairs. They simply hook up the computer and look for a code, or wait for a memo about a known issue. The old days of a mechanic being able to listen to your engine, or take it for a test ride and being able to decipher the problem are long gone. Your "mechanic" did exactly what every other "mechanic" does now-a-days... he called Ram and asked them. He will await an answer from them, because he likely doesn't have a clue. The other option is to start throwing parts and YOUR money at it until he eventually replaces the correct part. Its sad...

Does anyone have a copy of what the entire recall entails ? written instructions and photos of what is replaced. I have also received the notice and would like to know what's what.
The recall for the front axle brace the tech could not even drill all the holes and install all the right bolts and clips. ( I guess his thumbs could not work the drill)

On the trackbar reinforcement recall 4x4 version there is a little cutting,a lot of drilling, and installing some very stout rivnuts .Then some reinforcing brackets are added. The scr recall includes a software update, removing the ammonia sensor and module, cutting off the connector for the module and sealing with shrink tube.
I would be concerned about the incomplete track bar recall-how much did they do?

I completed the trackbar recall my self! went to dealer and got all the parts they did not install and just finished it at home. This is why I would like the info Instructions that are
necessary for the Scr recall. Then I can see what they don't do.

The recall is 18 pages long.If the dealer allowed you to do the track bar recall they surely would print out the recall for you

I did a 500 mile round trip to the coast this weekend. I go down once a month. I usually average 22 mpg going down and 21 on the return trip. *This is the first trip since the SCR recall. I got 24.2 going down and 23.3 coming back. That's calculated and it agreed with the computer. So it looks like mileage increase is real and the spark knock is gone when I put it under hard acceleration from a low speed. *

That's good new Alan and thanks for the update!

Just bought my 2014 2500 4x4 from my dad and he just had the "cat replaced" under a recall. I'm probably safe to assume that it was the SCR system recall right? I wonder if they messed with the ECM and shifting characteristics... I am NOT happy with the way the truck shifts...I was so hopeful! My 06 was built so it was very positive and crisp. This 6 speed auto can't seem to make up- its mind! I too hear that pinging sound but I think its more from the lugging the engine in a gear too low. I also attribute the "dead pedal" feeling that many have complained about to the transmission not downshifting quickly enough. Only 32,000 on the clock so I don't want to void the warranty with a programmer but I gotta do something! I hate torque management! That's what my right foot is for! :-laf

No change in dead pedal after scr replacement. Just drove my 03 to buyer today and it reminded me how much better it takes off the line and shifts without hesitation*

It is a bit more complicated than that. There are no longer any adjustments to control the engine-all software.FCA requires the tech to have been certified through their own training program at the correct level for the level of repair being made or the dealer will not get paid for the job.It is up to the dispatch/service manager and warranty administer to make this happen.Of course everything has to be followed for the best results
