Tyson Foods Unveils Plan to Ensure Differential Pay for Active Duty Team Members
Springdale, Arkansas - Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - Tyson Foods, Inc. [NYSE:TSN] today announced that it would provide differential pay for all team members called to active National Guard or military Reserve duty since September 11, 2001. The company will make up the difference between compensation for the military duty and the normal salary or wages of the team member before being called into duty.
The move was announced today in conjunction with the signing by Tyson Chairman and CEO John Tyson of a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve, which recognizes those branches of the military as essential to the strength of our nation and the well-being of our communities.
“We’re proud and grateful to have Tyson team members ready to make incredible sacrifices to serve our country,” stated Tyson. “We believe they should not have to worry about their financial well-being while they’re spending time away from their homes and families. ”
"We are extremely pleased to see this kind of generosity and patriotic support coming from an employer as large as Tyson Foods, Inc. ," said Maj. Gen. Don C. Morrow, adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard. "While our service members are doing their part to serve our country, it will be reassuring for them and their families to know that both their country and their employer are behind them 100 percent. ”
The Tyson Foods human resources department has begun work to identify team members who have been on military leave since 9/11, and work closely with Tyson’s nearly 300 locations nationwide to effectively implement the new policy throughout the company.
