at that point, you get a pipe wrench out. in my tool box at work i have 5 pipe wrenches and i use them daily, and i am an apprentice mechanic, not a plumber
Problem I've run into with pipe wrenches and nuts is that sometimes the pipe wrench and the way they work, griping tighter as you apply more pressure, will make the nut harder to remove. That's when you break out the two foot crescent wrench with a cheater bar. I've run into pipe fittings so frozen on that a 12' cheater on a 4' wrench wouldn't get them. Use a backhoe to turn the wrench, gets them every time.

we have a couple of 30 ton cranes that could do the same thing, but usually at that point, the torches come out to heat or burn it off

Most of my tools are Craftsman at this point, but I do have Snap-on intermidiate box and breaker bar. Saving up for ATS transmission and T/C before I get any more. Oo. :D

Anyone run into the Japanese version of a Phillips head screw? Screws are "plus" and "minus" to the Japanese and the "plus" grooves aren't shaped like Phillips are. They are flat.

are the japaniese version of the phillips screws the posi-drive ones?

and yet another reason for the robertson screw [or square drive for those that don't call it by the proper name]
