Well I got my new truck this week and absolutely love it!

The seat belt chime however is driving me nuts. When I pull into my driveway and pop off my seat belt it starts chiming like crazy. I guess when you're moving and you take the seat belt off, the chime COULD be understandable, although most cars just have a flashing light. The part that's driving me crazy is that the chime STILL makes noise when you put the truck in park!!! What's the deal with that. Has anyone located the fuse or wire to disconnect the annoying chime?

Incase you didn't get me message on DTR, basicly you can turn it off. The instructions, from my understanding is under the "Seat Belt" section of the manual.

Thanks much CJ

Thanks Crabjoe - I found it on page 42 of the owners manual. I haven't tried it yet as I have chicken on the grill, but thank GOD there is a way to defeat that annoying chime!!!!!!

Now if the horn could only be muted when you lock the doors that would really be something! Talk about drawing attention!

I tried to edit my reply but could not get back on TDR for awhile. You can stop the autolock at 15 mph and make all the doors unlock with one click of the key fob as well (instead of one for the drivers door and the second for the other doors).

The one that got me was the key in ignition chime. One of the first BOMBs was clipping the wire for that one.

Well I tried 3 or 4 times and couldn't get the seat belt chime to deactivate. It says in the manual with the key off, have the seat belt fastened, start the engine and wait for the seat belt light to go out, then buckle and unbuckle the thing at least three times in ten seconds(easy) and then shut off the engine. You're supposed to hear some little chime afterward to let you know it was deactivated but I couldn't get that to happen:confused:

Does the 48re normally shift fairly firmly/roughly? It sure seems to slam into gear compared to other automatics I've owned, although this is my first HD truck.

What tire pressure are you guys running in your 2500's?

03 next week

Man i hate to hear all these troubles. Bells drive me nuts. . I'd better try the new truck out and if i have trouble maybe the salesman can stop the thing.

Thanks guys. Somehow after ten times or so I got it to work. I think the reason it worked this last time is that after I did the whole process, I only turned the key off one notch, instead of all the way to off/where you can pull the key out. Oh well, I turned off the horn honk and the seat belt chime, two major annoyances gone!!

removing the chime w/door open

Can you let me know how you did the "clipping the wire Bomb" :)

I would like the chime to stop if I have the door open and the key on accessory, with the radio on.

Mission: Disable key in/door open chime

There is 20 guage light blue wire at the base of the steering column on the left side. Have to remove a few screws to get the knee bolster off for access. Pin 5 on the black 14 way plug. (between the 16gu red and 20gu black w/dark green wire)

Disclaimer: I did this BOMB probably before my check even cleared while programming out the stupid horn chirp and automatic locks so I have no way of knowing what else it might've effected. I know I don't have the anoyance of the chime when the door is open, but I don't know if there are any good things I'm missing. (like is everyone elses radio without display or non functioning wheel controls in ACC mode?)

It's sort of a tight spot but try to leave some room to reconnect if there's something negative for you after and want to switch back. (and just in case, keep your face away from the airbag when you clip it)

It's about a 5 minute job. Good luck Jim. This post will self-destruct in 5 seconds.....

PFFFFFFFFT

You can shut the door chime off so you can leave the door open and listen to radio by sliding something round like a phillips screwdriver thru the door latch, from inside of door towards the outside of door, but don't forget to flip the inside or outside door handle to release the latch before you close the door, or you could damage something when you close the door. What you are doing is closing the latch without closing the door, the switch is connected to the door latch. This way you don't disable the chime for other warnings.

You could always wire a switch in line with the wire bighammer is referring to. ;) If I shut the latch to stop the chime I'm sure I would forget about the latch being closed and destroy it when I shut the door.

I try-ed to disable the chime the way it says in the manual when I had my 03 but I never could get it to work but I was always turning the key completely off. Maybe that would of made the difference. I would up taking it to the dealer and having them put there puter on it and do it. But I am going to try this on the 04 I have now. That horn chirp is just a little to loud for me.

On the seatbelt lite/sig - some want to drive w/o the lite, not recommended by me (disclaimer) but, if you goto the dealer with your VIN you should be able to get extensions. They may have to order them but they are FREE (only thing that is -- of course you bought a 40k truck to get these free). You can get 2 per vehicle and even older ones (gots them for the 94 Trans Sport when we bought it in Dec).

Just make sure you send them with the vehicle as they will only do one set per VIN. But having the extension plugged in will shut-off the lite and chime.

SOTSU!!
