seat, can't move it or recline, how does it work?

Hello, Just picked up my 1993 350, and of course there are somethings wrong but not enough to call off the deal. One problem that I need to fix is the drivers seat which does not move.



Far as moving it forward or back, I have looked at the mechinizm (spelling??) and can see it will release the tooth on the left side, but the right side remains engaged. I moved the right side with a screw drive and the seat will move. Now I do not see anthing that has broken off, so I am not sure how this should work? Maybe someone could look at there seat and see if there is linkage that couples the two sides together, or figure out whats happening. I am driveing the truck to NYS from flordia and do not have all my tools else I would have taken the seat out.



The other seat problem is reclining. full up is ok, but if you recline it will sort of lock in but much pressure on the back and seat will continue to recline. I suspect a worn pin, but this does not look like it is easy to fix as the assembly is rivited togther far as I can tell.

If it is the factory seat there should be a stiff piece of wire that runs from side to side and ties the latches together. Typically what happens is the under seat storage of tools, axes, shovels, and such breaks the wire off and it gets tossed. You can rig it with lighter wire but it some times doesn't like to return.



I am not sure about reclining. If that is the factory bench it should not recline but flip forward for access to the club cab. Not sure if that is what you have but if it is a factory seat it be broke.

cerberusiam is right on the wire. Somneone broke it then pulled it off and threw it away.



cerberusiam The factory bucket seats in our year models were reclining. My truck has a set of them.





On the reclining part. Sounds like the latching setup is bad. If you know how to remove the seat cover you might be able to fix it.



If you go into your user control panel you can set up a sig. List all the spec's of your truck. That way we don't have to guess.

Thanks guys. Could you describe in a little more detail how and where this wire attaches? I don't see any holes or attachment points on the right side. Can I post pics here? I will try and find a 93 local so I can see, but I don't see many around these parts.

1993 350 dually diesel bucket seats

My D250 has buckets and console, but the foam was smashed when I got it, so I had it refoamed, and it went soft on the left side after a couple months. I discovered that pre 86 Honda seats are very comfortable, so I went to the junkyard and pulled the passenger seat from an 85 Prelude (hardly any wear, and the recliner is accessible between seat and console of truck. ) The sliders on the Honda won't fit, but I enlarged the Dodge seat pedestal holes about a 1/16" in diameter, and the Honda seat bolted right on- even the gray kinda sorta matches my interior. Its also the most comfortable seat I've ever sat in. I weigh 225, and that Honda seat is still good two years later- I highly recommend it.

There shoould be a hole in the latch on both sides for the wire to go into and then crimp back over. I just used baling wire in mine, still working 4 years alter (now Mom's pickup. bench, but shoudl be the same general hook up).

GMichaels, I had to take my seat out and completely remove everything off the seat to fix the reclining mechanism. I know the passenger side doesn't recline but your drivers side should. There were two bolts that sheared on mine that i had to replace so it would work again. It took a while but it was worth it because the seat wouldn't stay still.

Sorry, it's been about 6 months now since i drove my pickup so my mind's slipping a little, it's a good thing i only have 84 more days over here on the peninsula.

I replaced my seats with some from a 2001. I didn't want or need the center console that came with it, as I have almost a desk between my seats that I use for work. When I made the swap, it only took about 10 minutes to get the old seat out. There are only 4 bolts that hold it to the seat base. It's easy enough to do, without trying to repair in the truck.



It was at this point that I realized that the newer seats have the same track width as ours. Using one existing hole in the new seat and drilling another on the other end, it was a bolt it swap. Something to think about. When you spend as much time on the road as I do, seat comfort is a big thing.



Anyway, here's some pics that I took of the bottom. There's a return spring on each side for the track pawl. A solid wire connects the two pawls. There is a retainer slide on each end of the factory wire that keeps it in place. Hope this helps.



I never looked into the recliner, so can't help there.
