2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission seat heater

The seat heat on the drivers side stopped working. The high side of the switch flashes for about 1 minute but no heat. The passenger side works fine. Does anybody have any idea of what the problem is and or the fix.

I would guess it's an open in the bottom cushion. Disconnect the connector that supplies juice to the seat heater and check for power. If you have power it is an probably an open. Check for continuity of the seat and if it's has an open,check the connector to see if the problem is there or elsewhere. If you need to remove the seat cushion loosen 4 bolts and it lifts off the frame. Some have found a wire break without having to remove the seat covering so ,Good Luck. Hope this makes sense!

I've also experienced the broken drivers seat heater wire problem. As said above, remove the seat and most likely the wire is broken on the left edge area. I soldered it back together and was good to go. That was three years ago and it's still working.

Are you saying remove the seat then the seat covering to get at this area. i have noticed the left edge of the seat shows wear from getting in and out. was the wire you soldered in the grid or leading to it. If I have to take off the seat cover I would like to add a layer of foam as some of it has deteriorated after 9 years.

If you can get an issue 35 of the Register on pages 14-15 there is a pictorial along with instructions of removing the seat cushion cover and replacing the foam. I'll try to copy and email the pages to you however I'm computer challenged so I make no promises

Yes, remove the seat cushion, only, by I think, only 4 nuts/ bolts under the cushion then disconnect the wiring connection to it. Remove the hog ring clips and save for reuse. Peel back the sea cover carefully. You will then see the matting that covers the heating element.

The rest is straight forward if you are handy doing electrical repairs. To be forewarned the wires are very thin and requires a steady hand to reconnect and solder together. Sounds good to add some extra padding also.

Go for the self repair. You'll feel great afterward when it works.

Much appreciated fellows. I will remove the sear, repair the seat heat and add some foam. It will give me an excuse to be in the workshop during the holidays.

Lots of good info here, but I have a small wire bundle running from the lower seat cushion to the seat back that is on the backside of the passenger seat on the console side. Unless there is a connector that I don't see, this will preclude removal of just the seat cushion as it is tethered to the seat back. I have a very late 01.5 Quad Cab SLT. Does anyone else have this setup? Sure would like to do this the easy way.

My drivers side seat heater is working too good! It is burning my a55! I think that I have to redistribute the insulation.
