Well it looks like are fore fathers knew what they was doing!! Thanks to every one that stood up for our rights in 2008 Thanks to the NRA and to the men that said the 2nd amendment is to stay as is.

I fear the back slapping and high fives won't last long if there is a shake up in the court. It scares the you-know-what out of me that there are 4 people in black robes who think that the second amemdment is not an individual right. Should Obama get in, all it will take is one appointment and things will change. If you aren't a member, join the NRA now! It's too scary to have the Dems in charge without a massive effort by the NRA and gun owners across the country.

While I definitely agree that now is no time to let our guard down (I say, you got em on the run, run them into the ground, to use a maneuver warfare analogy. ) I don't think it is going to be easy to just wham-bam overturn the DC v Heller decision. Precedent on this goes back so far it's not even funny (English Common Law - Late Middle Ages). If you read the document, the majority pretty well picked apart the minority opinion, particularly Justice Stevens.

one small step for the supreme court. One giant step for putting the fear of God into the bad guy who thinks about breaking into your home, office camper, trailer, etc!! YEA! supreme court!!

Right - Which was to protect our freedom from Gov't interfering with our lives, and to protect the USA first and foremost. . As learned from the loss of rights taken by England. All you had to do there was have an unapproved copy of the bible and you would be "eliminated".

People need to learn about how fortunate they are to have freedom and make their choices wisely.

Took me many hours and still only read about 75% and scanned the other 25%. The minority decision was in fact very scary. Unless one is a member of the military you have no right to either keep or bear firearms. That expressly included per their write-up for self defense, hunting, recreation, etc. zip-zero!! The majority opinion broke it down to an individual right irregardless of membership in a militia/military. It says that the decision should not be viewed as trumping current regulations dealing with types of firearms such as machine guns and sawed-off shotguns. They also said that not allowing felons and mentally disturbed individuals the right to keep firearms was acceptable. They did not decide the legality of licensing requirements since the individual agreed that he could abide with the licensing requirement in DC as long as they were applied fairly.

It appears they gave us individually the right to protect our home and also mentioned that many individuals hunt and shoot recreationally but that was not what was being decided in the case. The case ultimately said that the individual involved could apply for a license to keep a handgun in his home readily available for self defense in Washington DC. I personally think that the challenges to some of the complete bans of firearms in some of the cities, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. will be successful, at least in the homes. In Oklahoma we can apply for a license to carry a concealed weapon and after completing some training be allowed to do so. I would guess this will still be a state-by-state decision.

Well I know I will get lambasted on this, but the supreme court expressly left in limitations on gun ownership. It follows therefore that restrictions on gun ownership may still be constitutional. Much like Freedom of speech is a first ammendment right Pornography is left to the limits of the local community... and child porn is expressely illegal everywhere.

This being said, I am a gun owner and challenge the all or nothing attitude of the NRA and refuse to contribute to it. I do my own reloading, hunt archery, primitave weapons and guns. I have a several pistols and will purchase s S&W 500 soon.

I see no problem with background chesks and registering. Even in the beloved South, Charolette NC you must apply for a permit to own a gun. They do a VERY thorough background check there. Waiting periods... . No Problem. If I need a weapon I can wait to purchase it.

DC banned handguns because of the proliferation of cheap less than quality firearms. The people of DC VOTED on this and wanted the ban.

Now whose vote counts more? 9 SCJ's or my sacred right to vote. The handgun ban has been in force for over thirty years and I know people who purchased guns from friends and if you really wanted a gun there are states close by with VERY liberal gun laws.

Again folks... don't feel you need to beat up on me as I may have a different take on what happened. I beleive the decision was correct as stated by AS that regulations reguarding purchase and ownership have not been struck down.

Is this "Really" the reason why?

Not beating up, just asking the question as it seems that there is usually a disguised reason for justifying a more true hidden agenda. I smell anti-gun lobbyists in action here.

I agree with you that... Come-on. . Who really needs an ak-47 or more aggressive assault weapons to protect themselves in their home or go hunting with? IMO they were designed for one purpose only and that was taking out a lot of people at one time. Still, thats just one person's opinion and our constitution is much bigger that the opinion of one or many for that matter.

Who really needs an ak-47

That's the beauty of this country. It's not a question of "need", but "want". If someone is responsible with one firearm, they'll be as responsible with another. The need-want can be brought into so many aspects of life. Who "needs" a jacked up to the sky, fire breathing, monster Cummins? Who wants one?:-laf Just a thought.
