Sort of eliminates the tough question "Do you want the white wall/lettering showing or inside?"

Also eliminates the question, "what's the appropriate tire pressure for these?".

If they come apart... . lookout!

Cool idea, although I think they're a bit ugly. I guess they need a sidewall.

the tweel. . i haven't seen those in a while. . for a car i think they are silly, but michelin had some prototypes running on a skid steer loader. very good for that kind of application i think. .

There was a prototype around 20 years ago. They are way tougher than the balloons we are using and a new "tire" consists of pressing a new rubber band around the outside. The old tire would likely be more recyclable (no steel, aramid or kevlar bands to mess with) and should cost less to manufacture. Plus no more flats!



The tought part: according to federal law courtesy of the great minds in Washington, a tire in this country must hold air. This would need to be changed prior to these getting used.

Hmmm. I hope there's more to the law than that. Otherwise, a tire that goes flat is automatically defective.

They are for real, and for cars they would work great, but I have to wounder for those of us who occaionally haul with our trucks what the choices would be. I guess get a rough ride with out a load, haul less to not overload the wheels, or have two sets around, one for everyday driving, and one for hauling:{



I can only imagine how those would be in mudd though, an dhow much one could then track out onto the road:-laf

These do have air in them! They're certainly not in a vacuum.

From what I once read about these the production ones for cars would have sidewalls and look about the same as any other tire.
