Not to excuse his behavior, but you know my old Kenworth got over the century mark a few times, above 90 it smoothed out and felt like it was on rails. You notice he did not hit anything, or wreck it or such, EVEN THOUGH HE WAS HIGH ON DRUGS!

Well lets see today they arrested some guy for doing 145 mph on his crotch rocket on the Florida Turnpike and he did not stop to pay his toll, of all the nerve. One thing I will say is that in Florida they do not drive as fast on I-95 on the east coast as they do on I-75 on the west coast.

Can't place that one, even though I have been all over the west coast. I did have a bullet bike pass me on I-5 that got my attention. I was doing 60 and he passed me on the bike doing at least 80 (also passing cars) while doing a full wheelie and he did not let her drop for at least a 1/4 mile ! ! Oo.

I have no problem with the 102mph, it's the 102 while high that bothers me. What the story didn't mention is he was most likely moving with the flow of traffic. Funny thing is my KW is faster than my dodge. (115mph gear limited KW, 108 gov limited dodge) Not sure what he was getting paid per mile but if it was ~$. 50 that figures out to $51. 00 per hr. Not too shabby?:-laf

I was rolling back from a job in NC... to home in VA and I'm zooming back at 75-80 and in my my rear view I got a PeterB. on my tail close. . so I bump it up to 85-90 and he's still there... well I had to soot him... lol ... he got a kick out of my little truck dumping a black cloud a 90mph. . I could see his grin. . so we cruised at 85-90mph all the way back with him on my azz. . he beeped and gave me the thumbs up when we split up. I was amazed at the Pete hanging even on grades.

You'd be surprised what class 8 mechanics see on their code readers sometimes. :--) I know of a double tanker hauling fuel in winter hitting 98mph+ on downhill side so he could make it up the hills without chaining. The mechanic I know pulled it off the reader during service.



Sometimes its not the semis holding traffic up.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Need to break it down by the cost per mile.



Might be spending that much on fuel per hour, but if the trucking is grossing $2. 50 or more per mile, that ain't bad. Grossing $255+/hr at that speed.



The KW I drive gets ~5mpg. The sweet spot is right around 70mph.

Actually 5mpg at that speed would be awesome. I guy I know was barely getting 3mpg doing 104mph in nevada (digital readout on dash)



And as someone else already pointed out the $. 50 per mile is drivers pay, not gross to the truck. At least I'd hope not. :-laf
