What service manual do I buy for my 04. 5 . I am concerned that the the 04 won't have the updated 600 stuff in it . HELP

Don

I ended up buying one off eBay because no one at the factory manuals website (name escapes me at the moment - yup gettin old) could tell me that my truck was covered. I emailed the seller and asked if the 600 was covered. He said yes, I bought it and he was right. Have not needed to use it yet, but in poking around it - everything looks right. If it mentions the SRT10, it also covers the 600.

just make sure to get one that states it is for a 04. 5 or 04 which covers 600 engines. my 04 manual does not cover the 600 engine

Nick, do you know where to get the manual, other than E Bay? How much are they? Thanks, Doc

i purchased mine off ebay for $9. 99usd shipping inc. but it is a copy [good enough for me] genos garage sells the real versions and they are like $100 or so...

I also am not sure if the 2004 service manual CD # 81-370-04059CD covers the 04. 5 600 diesel. It was on back order in Oct. when I ordered from Tech Authority and it finally arrived the first part of Jan. As best as I can tell it does not cover the 600 engine. I called Tech Auth. and they were no help.

I just got off the phone with Dodge Customer Service and after holding for 5 min he said that they didn't include the 600 engine because "only the HP and torque changed". I guess I should have ordered the 2005 Manual.

I don't think that is right. The "600" engine controls the transmission. So the wiring harness would be different to start with.

wbrasher - I have that CD, and it does cover the 600. Tech Authority does not know either. DC has the best engine company on the planet, and they are asleep at the wheel. I don't think they understand us very well, but they have figured out we will buy their trucks ;)

On the Foreword page of the SM, it says

SERVICE MANUAL

2004

RAM TRUCK

1500 - 2500 - 3500

INCLUDES SRT-10

AND DIESEL

at the bottom above the recycle symbol, there is a number: 81-370-04095

I have seen an early 2004 version, and that number is not there in the copy that I looked at. At the top of the Foreword page, it did not say includes SRT-10, so it would look like this:

SERVICE MANUAL

2004

RAM TRUCK

1500 - 2500 - 3500

p-Bar - I believe that is true for the automatic, not the manual transmission, but you are right - the differences are much more than just more HP & Torque.

nickleinonen mentioned Geno's garage. Has anyone called them to ask? No one at DC seems to know. I would think Geno's would be far more likely to know.
