Hey-

As long as you do the installation correct and measure twice, weld once, you wont have front end issues. There is a lot of expertise needed to do this custom fab in the front end. Personally, myself i would do the welding myself but I would want some help of the suspension guy I know. Downtime is a problem too. I mean the dynatrac kit is great but the price is pretty high for only getting rid of the locking hubs.

Now tell me, why do semi trucks still use leaf spring suspension? They are the most reliable and best overall suspension for a heavy duty vehicle. Now, coil suspension has one up on it and that is better ride... .

Why would anyone want a Ford front axle on a Dodge truck? If I'm not mistaken, it take's two football fields to turn a Ford around.

Update:

Ok guys, THIS IS IT! Just got finalized discount price from Dynatrac for the group buy. If we get twenty orders then the price will be $1560. The list price for the kit is $1795. The initial list I sent Steve had 20, maybe 21 names on it. I figure we need just a handfull more unless everyone on that list places an order. Ship date is 2nd week in September. These will be shipped first come first served. I will try to figure out how to send pictures of the kit which Steve sent me. The kit includes the stub shafts (short axles on the end). If you sent me your name & phone number, you're on the list. I think I responded w/ PM to those that I received. If you didn't get a reply, send me your name and phone number and year model truck. If you want on the list, and haven't sent info to me yet, now's the time. We have till end of month to get on the list for the discount. I will be posting this on a new subject "Group Buy Lock Out Hubs. "

It finally happened.....

Anyways, 1560 is not a very good deal, that is not even that good of a price for what you get in the kit. I could get that deal with my resale permit...

The topic here is Serviceable Lock Out Hubs. Please don't make people wade through a bunch of off topic stuff to get the info they are interested in.

The October issue of Petersens 4 WHEEL & OFF ROAD has a feature article on this hub kit for the 2nd gen trucks but with no list price.

Robert told me the 00-02 and 03+ rams have the same knuckle assemblies, so the kit will fit both. Anybody know if the rear brakes are the same too?

I've deleeted a lot of off-topic discussion and sarcasm/attacks. Let's keep it clean and on the subject.

I was interested untill I saw the price. I think I'm going to work on my idea for a 3rd gen 2 LO setup. I think I'm on to something simpler and cheaper. I just need the time to mess with it.

Price on the kit still seems much too high... I havent looked into it much but it seems you are paying for warn hubs and some instructions. What else is in the kit. We have waited months for this and only 12-15% off??

Jhardwick, please be logical. Your first post was rude against me for no reason. I wrote back and all our posts included comments not within TOS. Maybe you should cut the attitude and I wouldnt have to reply back to your nonsense in the first place...

Info:

I talked to Steve Marrone at Dynatrac yesterday, and found out that he has received 12 orders so far. The complete list I sent him contained about 27 or 28 names. If you have sent me your name etc. , all you have to do now is to call & place an order. We had some trouble receiving info from a few people. If you didn't get a PM reply from me, try to re-send your info.

I found out that the only special wrench of any kind needed to install the kit is something big enough for the spindle nut. I think he mentioned a spanner wrench, but then also mentioned a torque wrench. It seems to me you would need a big socket. That is what my son got for his land cruiser hub rebuild. We also talked about the U joints needed for the axles. For newer trucks, it makes sense to reuse the factory joints assuming no damage in disassembly, but I've got about 60,000 mi. on my truck, and these have been turning the whole time. I will probably replace mine when I do this kit. Think I remember someone talking about a Moog ? u-joint for the 3re gen trucks. Anyone have that info handy?

Kit

Robert is the guy I got my Beta kit from, & he is very helpfull.

I'm tellin ya, on my late model 02, it REALLY helps the steering.

I found out, while installing the kit, the "disconect" in the diff wasn't working, & all this time, all the gears were running incl the prop shaft to the xfer case.

Found out @ the TDR meeting outside of Knoxville, this is a prob with late year 02's. Mech there even had a xfer case to "lock up" on a rig. BAD thing, @ highway speeds.

I ordered my kit from Robert this past week. :)

It is my understanding that the late '02 Rams don't have an axle disconnect at all, that is why everything in the axle is always turning when you drive.

Joe

Note: My truck was built in February 2002 and has no axle disconnect.

Those who are interested in hubs for dodge trucks need to read the October 2005 issue of 4wheel& offroad , not a low buck conversion but a 35 spline upgrade with hubs.

Good indepth article on the subject.

Randy,

I ordered. Steve didn't think he had enough kits on the first run (~15 kits) to cover all that ordered and I don't know if I am on the list for the first or second run. That said I would assume that more than 15 people ordered as of last week.

Steve also said they are working on a 35 spline axle conversion for the 3rd gen trucks and will offer it as a Stage 2 kit just like what is available for the 2nd gen trucks. He did not have a timeline for the conversion yet.

Randy,

I ordered my kit at the end of August. I don't know where I stand on the list as of now. I dealt with Robert and Steve.

Thanks for putting this buy together!

Joe

So how much did the kit end up being?

If it were to save say 2 mpg, it should pay for its self in 100,000 miles of driving, with $3 per gallon fuel. If fuel goes up even more it would pay for its self much faster.

I'm waiting for someone here to tell us if it helps mpg & drivability, before I take the plunge. I like the idea of having 2wd lo to back the 5er up on blocks to level out.
