When changing seals and servicing the bearings do you pack the bearing with grease or use gear oil to lube the bearing on install. I have read conflicting answers on this one manuel says to pack with grease and some says to pour gear oil on the bearing before installing them. This on the rear of a 95 2x4 dana 80.

I would follow the manual. They most likely know more than the user would. Dont try to re-invent the wheel.

Thanks for this info I have a seep on one of mine and was going to change the seal today. Never worked on these big axles before pently of cars and half tons and when I saw that about the grease I said I better find out for sure.

Well I got it done I tighten the nut 130 lbs and backed off 1/3 round. I bought the nut and seal at the dealer but it was not near the seal that was in it from factory. I was more worried about getting the end play right than any thing else. The way it felt it was about like it was. Thanks again
