We travel all over the country and would like to know where we can get our truck serviced reliably.

We do not have anyplace to work on our truck ourselves. We have just a travel trailer, our truck, our dogs, and a lot of fun.

We are presently in San Marcos TX, between Austin and San Antonio. We need minor work done and would like to see where other members of this forum get their truck serviced reliably by people who know diesels.

We are frustrated with mechanics who do not understand the Cummins at all and give us bad advice (ignore the ABS light - just a sender gone bad) that cost us money or cannot even connect a wire.

We started with advertisers in TDR (of course) but the nearest is a full day's drive away.

A place to share such reliable repair centers would be very useful.

Here is a third vote for such a forum. We pull a camper all over the eastern US. Knock on wood my Dodge Cummins has never left me stranded but a few friends have experienced misc. service needs and struggled to find competent shops and so used the closest Dodge dealer. This has resulted in mixed results and experiences. Often the dealers were unwilling to expedite service or evaluation even after explaining travel circumstances.

I would start by adding Whitcraft Transmission Service in Reisterstown Md. These guys have made numerous trans repairs for me, family members, and friends. Service has ranged from simple internal repairs for a couple hundred bucks, up to full removal, rebuild and reinstall.
Greg and his team have on numerous occasions made minor repairs in one day when national chains have insisted that full trans replacement was required.
Whitcraft has made several minor repairs to my Dodge Cummins and others within my circle of family and friends. They also stand ready to remove and rebuild when needed and have a list of "recommended" parts that they will install as optional.

Perform your own due diligence but consider this shop for good, honest, and timely service

So long ago, the TDR had a voluntary resource list of members you can call for almost any reason. I don’t think it was too popular. I know I never once got a call.
The forum here already has a “911” tab all the way up top, for such situations.

I had 2 or 3 calls from members when that was happening.

Good points. I should have perhaps excluded the "emergency" type of information as I am aware of the 911 forum.
My comments should have stuck to the point of a desire for a "Preferred Service Provider" list, forum or index.

I think it is a great idea. Just a simple list of shops that is searchable by location and rating would do the job. Ideally you could list what work you had done there and have individual ratings on the type of work. Some places could be great at engine work but would not be a place to go for driveline work.

The issue is maintaining the list. If someone would be willing to create a list I can open up the Resource section of the software (a currently disabled feature), create it in the Resources and then that person can maintain it. Anyone willing?
