Got the #8 plate from Piers yesterday and put it in per instructions. Clicked the star wheel 15 clicks. Off the line faster and when you get third and punch it she gets up and goes! Did some hills empty, she does very good. Boost was topped out at 22 before plate and elbow, now it goes to just a tad over thirty. Can't wait to tow, that will be in 2 weeks. Also the wastegate actuator was replaced due to the bellows having a hole in them.

Can't tell if there is smoke as I wrapped it up right at dark. Will see tommorow. Does 30 boost sound about right?

It is a real heartbreaker that I can't let her rip... traffic, will hit the open road a bit this weekend..... this sucker may get me in trouble... i. e. tickets!

Mike

I get a TAD over 30 at WOT,I love my #8I don't know about anybody else but I get over 100mph pretty easy now, clocked my self at 108 with the ole GPS the other day

So the #8 from piers is a 230/605? That's about what I'm looking for cause I just want a bit more without tearing everything up! I did the star wheel on the stock plate 20 clicks(30 is better just too much initial smoke). I checked the mileage again and it was down from 18. 8 to 18. 6 but I lost the converter so I put it back to see if the mileage changed:( and it is not as much fun, I believe these pumps really like the more fuel from the wheel, like jam it from a stop and it goes out 20ft then spools hard:D Tell me why you like piers plate over a TST? other than the fact he is a stand up guy!

In your case yes that should be correct. It depends on what pump you have as to which plate gets you 230/605. -- I also believe that other than his own custom grind plates, Piers uses nothing but TST plates.

Cough, cough

Lots of black smoke when stomped..... star wheel was turned towards engine 15 clicks, I think I will go back 5 of so. That little guy in the nissan "truck" had a really weird look on his face at the next light! If I could only keep my foot out of it... . yeah sure:rolleyes:

Mike

Cat, I havn't had this kind of fun with a vehicle in YEARS! I can see how one can get addicted to SPEED! That plate really woke up the Cummins. I'm thinking air cleaner now... I wanna see the long term of the "big honking" one. I was talking to Illflem, via e-mail about the tractor or large compressor intake filters a while back cause I am just not too keen on a wet filter... lots of dusty roads here! Need to know micron ratings. Magnehelic will have to be used.

Mike

P. S. Piers is the man to deal with... good guy and takes the time to let you know what you need too! His lady Louise is a part of the works of a great operation! No, I am not a relative and do not get paid for this statement.

Looked at it yesterday After 3 weeks and no fines in tube to turbo or in turbo. good filter IMO!

'956Wheel

After my #11 plate install had a pretty good cloud behind me at mild acceleration. Installed BHAF and its all gone and full throttle its less than lght throttle before.

Cat, Your'e right over the hills from me, I'm in the Cresenta Valley. How far north are you located? Have to email ya. Did you get the BHAF at Napa... . details please.

Mike

I backed the star wheel off so it's now 10 clicks, rather than 15, towards the engine... lots of BBC (big black cloud), I will scoot the AFC back a tad and see what happens. Just do not want the attention that a BBC will get me!:p There must be a "happy medium" where power is almost smokeless... or is there?

Mike

Smoke??

Mike check your pm. smoke in your part of town will draw out the boyz in blue real fast!! they must have nothing better to do!

Mike:eek:

Smoke and the law

One of us needs to come up with a switch that you can select to give you smoke when needed like when that idiot it in the right lane and in your way, or lets say when your at a stop light and catch someone with there window down... ... . LMAFO;)

Jim

I was looking at a #8 or #6 for my rig I might be safer since I have a stock Trans to go with a #8. Did you really feel that much change going to a #8. Just want to be sure before I spend the bucks$ I will not be able for some time to do any trans work you know short on cash and Christmas soon. Well let me know just asking.

JFulmer, you need to talk to Piers Harry. He has what he termed a vanity switch, whereby you could (with the flip of a switch) control the HP output (and also the smoke level).

Thanks Steve

That was meant to be more of a chuckle than anything but I will keep that in mind. I plan on calling piers for a plate and 3000 springs but I need to get the guages and pilar first. Thanks again for the info!

Jim

GBall, Yup the 8 plate really brought the truck to life, mines a 5 Speed and off the line is faster and when you get third and step on it it gets up and goes! Worth it, you bet. I would get it through Piers, its the same plate and he will answer all your questions on the phone or e-mail.

Mike

JF, You lost me on "pm"... wats dat?

Mike: "PM" is Private Message

Piers valet switch is ingenious... it's a little vacuum solenoid that prevents boost from going into the AFC housing and moving the diaphragm and dumping more fuel in relation to boost.

I asked him about it a while back and it won't set you back much dough.

Matt - firm beliver in the smog switch.

GBall,

If you tell Piers you are a TDR member, he gives a healthy discount to you!!! I couldn't get it as cheap direct from TST as Piers! My no. 8 is in the mail now. If you have a stick shift, the no. 8 maybe too much torque. E mail him first to see what is best for your combo. You also have the option of not having too heavy of foot but using the extra power only when needed like pulling a hill with a load. Also if you let the transmission shift first, the transmission will like you longer. Herb:D
