Friends,

Sheba had a stroke last night and is at the Vets for assessment and treatment. We played fetch and brushed her good, then Tue evening collapsed and couldn't get up. Quite possible she will have to be put down. We're on pins and needles waithing for word.

She is the best 4-legged kid, fetcher, unconditional friend, best RVer, best pet ever. We're so broken up. She has pretty bad hip dysplasia. and early examination, lost significant control of her left front leg/paw, unable to stand. Cleo, our almost 2YO Lab knows something is wrong with her friend and very sad today too.

I know many of you have family pets and undter stand the love for them and the stress when something bad happens. Hope my next post is good news.

Cheers, Ron

Sad news for sure Ron. I admittedly go down deep in the rabbit hole with grief when things happen like this and that is why I did not want another dog. I inherited this one when the daughter married and could not have dogs where they lived so depending on which one of us goes first I may have to go through the grief again.

Friends,
Vet just called to let us know Sheba isn't responding to treatment. We're going over there at 3:45 today and may have to make the hard call, which we suspected. We always suffer severe grief, and always remember each pet with great fondness from when I was a kid to today. Glad the tractor is working for digging her grave, last pet Bella, tractor had been setting for a year while having surgery on my ankle. Had to bury her by hand in the rain. It's misting today.

Thanks for all the kind words. Worst is yet to come today, much sadness and crying.

Ron

Truly sorry to hear that Ron. I remember the day we had to put our 15 year old lab down from a stroke like it was yesterday. I was out of town and couldn't get back in time. Wife and kids sat with him on the tail gate in the parking lot while the vet did her thing and he closed his eyes one last time laying on mammas lap. It was one of the worst days we have had as a family but I wouldn't trade a single minute we had with him for the world.
Remember the good times buddy.

Friends,
I was digging her grave when Vet called to inform my wife Sheba had passed away. We loved on her at the house before we took her and loved on her when we brought her to the Vet. She never whimpered or moaned. We picked her up a while ago and now she is resting by her old friend Bella. Ordered grave marker, and now going to reminisce with DW and grieve.

Thank you all for your kind comments, really helps when you love your dogs like we do.

Best to all of you, Ron

Remember the good days. Fetch, chasing skunks racoons squirrels, house training, owner getting trained by Sheba, labs like water fun don't they? sitting by your chair and looking up with eyes saying pretty good day can we do it again tomorrow?

Gary, you forgot chewing up our worldly possessions! That is what puppies were made for, or so it seems.
Many years ago when I got Kiddo I was living alone but dating my now wife. I bragged about how well mannered he was for such a little pup, never went to the bathroom inside, never chewed anything that wasn't his. Until she gradually began leaving some of her things behind. It was seek and destroy type stuff. Never touched one thing that belonged to me but he sure seemed to have a sense for what was important to her! This must of carried on for close to 2 years. Eventually she won him over and became her best buddy. Arguably better buds than me n him and a fierce protector over her whenever a stranger (to him) came around. Such loyal loving creatures they are.

So sad about this! Going to go hug our dog. Our son lost his wonderful yellow lab a few months ago. Just the worst thing to go through. Somehow it's almost worse in a different way than when people die.
