Has anyone seen or used Rotella 15/40 oil in the Ecodiesel? New to me. I saw it in Walmart and was buying three gallons before I realized it’s 15/40.
I think I’d be great in our trucks and protecting bearings. I live in a warmer area so winter isn’t a concern.
Any thoughts?

I would also stay with recommended rating from the manufacturer. These new engines have really tight tolerances, heavier oil might cause a ticking time bomb issue.

When I traded my 2005 RAM diesel for my current 2014, I read that the factory fill had changed to 5-40 synthetic. I had always used 15-40 conventional in the 2005. I contacted RAM to ask why they changed and if I could still use the 15-40 conventional in my 2014. They told me that the recommendation had not changed: 15-40 conventional or 5-40 synthetic, depending on the temps in my area. The factory fill changed because they were selling a lot of diesel RAMs to folks in the north that really needed to use synthetic. He said that in my area (TN), I shouldn't be concerned about whether or not to used synthetic.

If your 2014 is an ecodiesel, your deater is incorrect.

Conventional oil has never been factory acceptable for the Ecodiesel.
The first Ecodiesel (2014) factory oil requirement was synthetic 5w-30. In 2016 it was changed to 5w-40 and recommended Rotella T6. It has been presumed that the change was to help preclude bearing failures. IMO one should stay with synthetic 5w-40, especially if still under warranty. I use Rotella T6, 5w-40.

Sorry! I missed the fact that the question was about an EcoDiesel! My truck is a 3500 Cummins and conventional 15w40 is still acceptable in most temps. With the EcoDiesel, I would stick with the synthetic 5w40.
