Interesting Artcile.................

I recently purchase a diesel zero turn mower and am having problems with shipping. The rates I have received where more than the mower itself. The mower is a Toro Ground master 217D and its dimensions are 108"x66"x50" and it weighs approximately 2000lbs From Waterford, CT. 06371 To Nashville,Tn. 37214. Does anyone have any Ideas on what would be the best way to ship this.

P. S If anyone is interested here is link to what I am trying to tow. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2319555927&category=20544&rd=1

I've had good luck with an "ad" in the towing and hauling forum. Had offers from many different TDR members when I needed a tractor moved from San Diego to Montana, 1300 miles. Ended up paying less than half the rate of a private carrier, the guys doing the hauling were happy, I was happy.

I really appreciate all of the info from everyone. Irontrader I would love to make the drive to get it but I am in Dallas, TX. I bought the mower for my father who lives in Nashville. Bmoeller that is a great site. unfortunately I couldn't find anyone going the right direction. I checked freightquote.com and fowardair along with a dozen others. The problem I have is they want all fluids drained and the tractor crated. and around $1300 to $1400 to ship it. Mackin If I could find enough people I am willing to pay. Illflem thanks for the suggestion I am going to post this under towing and hauling. Thanks to everyone for the help.

maybe

I might be able to help you out, but it wouldn't be until the second week in June. I posted freight wanted (for the trip up)in the towing section and haven't latched onto anything yet...

well I didn't have much luck today. The biggest problem I am having with shipping is the fact that I have to drain all fluids from the mower crate it and deliver to a shipper and then pay more for shipping than I payed for the mower. I have a 2001 3/4 Dodge Cummins that got demolished in a hail storm about a month ago and has been in the body shop over three weeks plus it is in Dallas, Tx. So any pulling I do will be with my fathers 1/2 ton Dodge with a mighty (weak) v6. If I could find enough people willing to get it a little closer to my location I could get it. I just dont like the Idea of having to drive it all the way to CT. It would be a slow slow trip. Parcher, Hummin Cummins, mackin I have no Idea where most of your locations are but if they get it closer to Nashville I am willing to pay.

The relay issue sounds good. You could rent a one way U-Haul car trailer or an enclosed one if it would fit. The other way is to find a guy that hauls travel trailers... like the old boy that was in the last issue of the TDR magazing. Maybe he could "back haul" it. They are usually going back dead head to the mfgr of the trailers.

Go with what illflem says to do also.

PS if the thing has starting problems... . Ck both the glow plugs AND the valve clearances.

We need a southern leg for this relay. If not I can take care of it for you. If you boys up north want to get it to me I can go the rest of the way. I was just down that route for the fourth time in April to go to Talladega. I know it by heart. LOL

Lets get a plan togther and help this fellow Rammer out.

It's a lowboy...

style instead of a float. Things like that ride sweet on it and it tows really well. Has 2 7,000# axles and fold-up ramps. :D

I also have a float if necessary, but the little one will handle this. :D

You sure it does not need to go to Tenn via Texas?;) Might be a good idea to bring it down here and mow my yard... uh, I mean test it first!

I didnt look close but I'll bet it has a Kubota diesel in it. I think while its going past my house I'll do a quick engine swap in my Stiener and get rid of that puny 20 HP Onan gasser. ;)

Total Distance: 1015. 25 miles Total Estimated Time: 16 hours, 30 minutes

I'm about 75 miles from Mo'chine ... . No biggie ... .

The only problem I see is a trailer ... . Have to get a car carrier or landscaper type, one way... . It's at a house so it will have to be pushed tugged dragged up on,I'm sure... .

I'd be willing to take it to New York,N/C ..... Preferably Brewster 95 sucks ... . Not sure who to tag or where ... . Avail Monday thru Sunday need few days notice ... .

MAC

I'll check with my buddie see if he has anything going that way . . Can you get it off a flat bed ?? He hauls golf carts all the time . . Leave fluids in ,no problem'o ... .

If you can get it to Brewster I can swing it from there. I can bring my trailer if it would save the one way rental. I'm sure a small come a long would drag it on. We could transfer from that trailer to mine (I never rented one not sure of the cost) I could get out and back easy in a day then leave from my place the next day. I have days off during the week (work swing shift). I would run 80 to 81 to 84 so that would work out good.
