I just came back from a trip and my shock really didn't perform very well. (stock) The road was waved, rolled,or what ever you want to call it(bad road, but smooth). Anyhow the frontend was bouncing pretty bad.

It was tracking true, I just thought it hopped a little to much.

Is this just bad stock shocks (28,000miles)?

For highway running what are most of you putting on your truck?

thanks for any help

mike

I put Monroe Sensitracs on my '95 in '96 and they have performed well. A BIG improvement over the stock jokes!

Don't use 9000s on front end!

Rancho 9000's are good for the rear end, not the front end. From day one when I installed the 9000s on the front end, there has been a creeking, crunching noise that was never there with the OEM shocks when going over any bump or dip in the road. I have check all the connections and know I have used the spacers for all bolts ... I just think the 9000's were never designed correctly for the Dodge truck.

FATCAT, I know several people running RS9000's on the front (including myself) with no problems. I've never had any kind of creeking or crunching in the front end even when off roading at the sand dunes or rock crawling in the mountains. Are you sure the sleeve in the bottom of the shock fit closely to the bolt? Sometimes you have to press out the sleeve that was on your stock shocks and reuse them with the new ones. In my case the sleeve that came with the shock fit properly, but on my steering stabilizer I had to reuse one of my stock ones. Just a thought.

Ranco 9000's work flawlessly on the front end of thousand of dodge rams, diesels and gassers. present company included there is not a better shock for the ram as the 9000's (durability engineering, adjustability etc. ) is there a chance that the install didn't co as planed(not flaming on you personally as mounting shock is not exactly rocket science) but did the proper bushings come with the shocks or is there a chance the wrong shock was shipped? I would think that if there was a problem with 9000's on our rams that the board would not recommend them soo highly.

You should have them checked out by a offroad shop or someone else that might be able to help as you should also enjoy the ride as the rest of us. Let us know how you make out.

(disclaimer, Iam not affiliated with rancho in any way just a satisfied customer)

Hummm, theres a thought ... the steering stabilizer. I'll check the connection at the frame. I figured that the spacers that they gave you were the correct ones ... I don't think that is to much to ask from Rancho when spending big bucks for their equipment.

Thank you Steve.

I would recommend Rancho RS9000 to anyone. I've had mine on for 2yrs & the adjustabilty come in handy for me because sometimes I'm empty & other times I'm hauling heavy & can adj them for good ride or good control.

After 50,000 miles on the o. e. shocks, I had to replace them. Went with the Rancho RS9000's, and love them. Adjustability is a big plus in the rear end. Empty I am on 2 (rears), and towing/hauling, I usually jump to 3. Fronts seem good on 3 (I haven't experimented much with changing the front).

Steve St. Laurent had a great post for the install THANK YOU STEVE !

hey thanks for the input (even if it was in the wrong forum)

In all the responses it looks like you all have 4x4

does it matter if it is a 2x4

are these brands a good replacement

thanks again

mike

i doubt that 4x4 or 4x2 matters much.

a shock is just an 'energy absorber', so the important issue is how much energy are you trying to absorb, and that comes from truck weight (mass) and how deep the pot-holes are (acceleration).
