I'm looking at a 1998 CTD engine w/ manual trans for a conversion in which the ad claimed the engine was totally rebuilt, well after talking to the guy I discovered that it just got a new short block.
The story goes, he installed a brand "X" oil filter (first time cummins owner) and after some time the engine basically chewed itself up on the inside. Supposedly (have not seen paper work yet) it was towed into a Dodge dealer in which they installed a new short block and used the original parts, like cylinder head and so forth.
I have been told by other users on this web site to use the manual trans engines because they had higher Hp/TQ ratings than the auto's.
Well my question is this, besides calling the dealer when they open to see if the part numbers are different, does anybody know if their is a difference between the automatic and manual trans short blocks?
