Thinking about a DRW vs SRW

The description in the drawing is misleading. The "5th C/S" should be called the "main drive gear", as all the power to the countershaft goes through this gear.

I agree :)

It's called the 5th gear on any site thou, it must be called that by NV gear??

THANK GOD that is cleared up I thought for sure that all of my previous knowledge would be wrong too. . One of the problems of reaching "Adulthood Advanced" is that some facts tend to get blurred by neural degradation...

Will the 2013 still have the 68rfe and AA11. 5 axle? Looking at a possibility of Either upgrading truck or getting an extended warranty at the end of 5 yr. (Sept 2014)

The 2500 will have the 68RFE, and the 3500's will have a new Aisin.

I would assume that they still use the AAM 11. 5" axle, it's rated for more weight that Dodge rates the RAWR for.

EDIT: I Just recall reading that the 13's use an 11. 8" ring gear axle, not sure if it's a typo or improved AAM, or something else. This will be with the HO's.

Actually they both have the 68RFE option at around $500. . The 3500 just gets the additional option of the Aisin for about $2500.

Interesting, thank you. I understood the HO to be standard on the 3500's, and the SO to be standard on the 2500's.

If I remember the spec's right, I think the following is close, don't hold me to it:D

All G-56, 2500-5500..... 350/660

68rfe auto 2500-3500 pickups... ... 370/800

Aisin auto 3500 pickups... ... . 385/850

Aisin auto Cab/Chassis 3500-5500..... 350/750

Those sounds correct, I just read the 68RFE to be the 2500 trans and the AS96RC to be the 3500/C&C trans, with ratings based on pickup or C&C. I would guess your post is more correct now after looking at it again.

It is two different Aisin transmissions one for the C&C's and one for the Tow Max 3500 duallies. You can get the 68RFE in both the 2500 and 3500 SRW. The order sheet at the dealer made it appear as if you could still get the 68RFE on DRW 3500 as long as it wasn't the Max Tow engine and other upgrades, but we could never get the computer to accept that option. The dealer and I played around about 10days ago when I was ready to order a DRW 2013 only to learn that productions was halted on the DRW 3500. So I am at square one. I deceided to wait till some come in to drive and look at maybe I will get lucky and some dealer will have ordered one like I think I want, other wise I may wait and order a 2014. The dealer and I went to the shop manager and used their service manuals to get the gear ratios on the different trans options. The 68RFE remains unchanged along with C&C aisin, The ratios on the 3500 DRW Aisin was almost identical to the the C&C aisin. The difference was +- 2 to 3 hundreds in every gear but 4th which is direct just like all of the other trans options.

All the information I have seen shows the C&C getting the new Aisin, the AS69RC. The AS68RC doesn't have the torque handling capacity for the increase to 750 ft/lbs for the '13 C&C trucks.

I'm not to sure they know what they are talking about... They list Hp as 350 and Torque as 660.

That's no big deal... I've seen dealers showing a truck has a Hemi, but when you look at the window sticker, it shows Cummins. . They probably just listed the standard Cummins engine's power rating.

Probably a 6-speed manual. Add a couple more grand for the Aisin.

They list it as a 6 speed automatic...

Understand that. Those are the deealers i stay away from. If they can't even bother to get the basics right, they don't care enough to get my business.

had a buddy call me tonite said he looked at a 2012 3500 pickup, salesman told him it had a 6 speed Aisin. is this posible or was he looking at a 2013?

Salesman lied. . There's no 2013 3500 on any dealer lot, and there's no 2012 3500 pickup with an Aisin. If it was a 3500 C&C, sure, but not in a pickup. BTW, it would be easy for your friend to tell what the transmission was. . all he/she had to do was look at the window sticker.
