Or......has the frequency of failures increased, along with higher shop rates and parts pricing?

Yes,.... FCA's less than stellar build quality and cheap components is biting them on the backside......and we get to pay for it...(actually, I don't have to pay for it.....:D My maxcare was free......

You can go to the Max Care website and see the cost for $200, $100, and 0 deductible. Warranty is higher for C&C trucks.

The thing about car math, or in our case, truck math, it all about the bottom line, out the door cost.

Cheers, Ron

They must have made their website more robust since I bought my maxcare in Dec 2013. Or maybe I just didn't navigate all the options correctly. I only remember seeing $100 deductibles. There were many year/mile options

I goofed up.... When I had shown my salesman the online MaxCare 8/125 w/ $200 deductible quote for $2850 on my phone I accidentally fat finger selected a RAM 2500.... Not the 3500 I was getting.....When I look online at the same site.. The quote for the 3500 is $3235. Whoops

I would never get anything but a manufacture backed warranty... Period.

Sounds like you found a dealer to match the "fat finger" price? That's good bargaining that saved you $400-ish?

Friends,

Yesterday, I decided to purchase the Max Care 8 Yr/125K miles warranty for my 2017 Ram 5500 for $4230. I decided to purchase it due to all the additional electronics on my Laramie. Power vented seats, the configurable vehicle options are mostly done through the 8.4Nav, even the transfer case uses an electric motor.

Well, I just received an email from Mopar Service Contract rep with a refund stating they no longer sell service contracts above a 3500.

Very professional, the policy folks change their minds and implement it without removing the ability to purchase on line.

Oh well, guess it is what it is.

Cheers. Ron

It seems as if you were able to easily afford the warranty. With that being said......I’ll bet any out of warranty odd-ball repairs you might ultimately have to perform will always be significantly less than the original premium.

I’d certainly not sweat it....

Greg,
You're right... I did some mental math adding up 8.4NAV, various electronic modules, vented/heated/power leather seats and the math worked out. Very interesting... FCA must have been losing money on 4500/5500 extended warranties. I'm only annoyed about a business that decides to stop selling something, but doesn't bother to turn off the ability to buy it. I'm good about it though. Where I bought my 2017 5500 Laramie, has two 2019 5500 Limiteds without beds for almost $84K each.

BTW, I have to purchase another Sirius Satellite car kit for my LRE. After I finished everything else, I went to install it, found the box, and a connector, but no kit. I have one receiver I bounce around between the man cave system and my Jeep. Anyhoo, thanks again for the interface. Should have it over the holidays and will post over on my LRE thread.

Cheers, Ron

Stop taunting me with those Cab & Chassis pics :p

Is your unit a Sportster?

Also be aware there could be "commercial" restrictions on certain "MECHANICAL" items for larger GVW trucks, depends on your specific coverage for sure.

I remember reading that on the back of my paperwork, there is "SPECIAL" coverage available for some of these, so always worth sticking with the fine print and vehicle specific quotes we all seem to get these little differences.

This is from my plan paperwork.

Near the end of that top paragraph, and the smaller paragraph at the end of the top box.

I seem to think there might be a disclaimer that says to go back to the dealer for a refund, that might be in the letter they send with your little card, cant locate that right now.

Only buy Max Care!

To add to what others have said - if you sell the vehicle before your warranty runs out you get a refund on the unused portion. This amounted to over $1,200 on my 30 month old Jeep Grand Cherokee. I don’t think anyone else does this.

If you buy a new truck, drive it 6 months & it gets totaled you get most all your warranty money back from FCA - aftermarket $0.00.

If you love the truck and the warranty runs out you can buy another extended warranty (more money & fewer miles/months) and keep out of new truck payments.

Hope this helps.

I made the mistake of purchasing a genuine Chrysler extended warranty on my previous 2014 3500. The AC quit well within the warranty period. I took the truck into Langley Chrysler in Langley, BC to have it repaired under the extended warranty, and was forced to pay more than $200 to have the vehicle released. I was charged for a full recharge. When I asked why I was forced to pay for the repair that was clearly covered under the extended warranty, I was told that because they cannot find the leak, they cannot repair it, and since they can’t repair it, the recharge was not covered under the Chrysler extended warranty. We went in circles with me asking if a Chrysler service shop is unwilling or unable to repair a Chrysler product, who can? I called Chrysler Canada to complain, and they stood behind the dealer.
When purchasing the new 2019 3500 Longhorn I purchased a third party extended warranty with good reviews. From my own personal experience with genuine Chrysler extended warranties, I wold recommend avoiding them like gonorrhoea, syphilis, and pink eye.
