leaving town, don't have time to take it into dealer, and don't have needed tools where I am to do it myself. Is there anything I should be wary of? Thanks...

Watch 'em!

1. Do not use their filter. They are cheap and come apart like a dollar and half suitcase.

2. Make sure that they prefill the oil filter before they install it.

3. When they back it off the rack... . check it again!

4. I forgot something... . keep the pit guy with his big greasy pliers away from your Mag-Hytec cover!

Before I would to that, I would pick up my own filter and oil, and stop buy a corner service station and have them change it.

But still, I would watch them.

How many miles do you have on the oil change? You know the factory recomends 7500 for highway miles, and it that cummins was installed in anything else it would be recomended to change it at 15,000 miles. Maybe you should just wait.

I've gone about 7k so far..... and make LOTS of short trips... . under 5-7 miles. Fixin to head 500 miles down to Jacksonville to watch my 5th ranked Dawgs WHIP Florida so I need to get it done ASAP. :D

someone must be along the way that would be able to lend a helping hand, or filter and stuff. I would never trust the quick change places to do anything.

Lots to be wary of......

I will never go to a quick-lube place again. Last time I stood there and watched the "tech" pour 6 qts. into my 98 Honda before he realized the mouth-breather in the pit forgot to reinstall the plug. I just let him keep pouring and then insisted they let it all run out, put the plug back, and fill properly... . for free.

I'd hate to, but I'd make the trip without the change if none of the above alternatives will work.

LOL... OB1 if you're truck wasn't so damn fast I'd chase you down and... . ;)

Gonna be a helluva game... if we take care of buisness this weekend we can clinch the SECE (first time in 20 years!) in Jax..... at night..... shoooot... . UF won't stand a chance!:D :D :D

I have a cross-threaded oil plug on my wife's surburban from a Jiffy Lube in Houston. It has never sealed right since the one time, WHEN I WS IN A HURRY BEFORE A TRIP, and I got them to change the oil. Big mistake. I should have just left the oil in and changed it whgen I got home.

if you live close to I95 i'm sure any truck stop along the way would have the right oil and filter and i would trust those guys more than jiffey lube my 2 cents:D :

Dixie,

You better hope they win now. You'll be gettin a message from me after Florida upsets you guys this weekend. Rex is ****** that he is playing bad, and will redeem himself against you guys.

Besides, LSU is gonna win the SEC.

NEVER!

You are much better off going over your interval than taking the risk of the pit monkeys screwing up your truck.

We have a store close to one in another town and I jokingly asked a pit guy how many plugs did he cross thread today. He said FOUR or FIVE and he wasn't joking!

NEVER.

Find a trusted full-service mechanic or friendly but not-so-busy neighbor or TDR buddy or JUST WAIT and do it yourdangself.

I would never change it and then hit the road for 500 miles. Wait till you get back and then change it yourself or at least take it to a dealer.

They will never touch my truck!

I had some good luck and some bad luck when I used to use the local "lube in the box" with my old truck, but one (the last) bad trip and never again. I don't like to feel like I have to watch them like a hawk to get proper service and I believe that is what you have to do.

One cold winter day with my 1990 and went to the local lube joint. I took my own filter and oil I specifically asked them to pre fill the filter, the kid acted like he was filing the filter... only one problem he only poured oil about 3 seconds. When I went out and confronted him he hadn’t even lubed up the gasket on the filter and was heading to the engine filter in hand. He and his co-worker said oiling the gasket wasn't necessary..... Oh man! I couldn't help thinking what they will try when you’re not looking! I do my own and enjoy it.

I forgot one

Way back when, a local shop had an oil change special. One of the mechanics rented from my dad. So I took my '77 F-150 in and they put it on the rack, drained the oil, and changed the filter. Then they lowered it, took my money, and said see ya later.

I fired it up and KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK-before I flipped the off switch. They forgot the re-fill part.

That old truck is still kickin', but it ain't from the tender care of oil jockeys.

NEVER

Now that you are going to wait till you return from watching the game to change the oil , think of getting a easy drain one with the hose or the finger operated valve . I have the one with the hose and cap over the valve for two years now works fine easy to change the oil with out a wrench . just a thought . Ron in LOUISVILLE KY Oo. Oo. Oo. :D P. S watch out for GATORS:D

I had my wifes Lexus serviced at a Lexus dealership in Atlanta. Part of the service was oil and filter change. They don't have oil jockeys at Lexus dealerships, the Mechanic does the oil and filter work (I guess that justifies the high cost). After they service your car they run it through a wash and they dry it and bring it up front. I got in her car and drove off. Noticed the oil light was on and turned around and drove back in. When I popped the hood their was a wrench laying on the engine and no oil in the engine. Had the GM come out so I could chew on his ass for a while. They decided to give me an extended warranty coverage on the engine to 120K miles for free. That was at 90K miles. Drove the car to 120K miles and it started using some oil and smoking in the mornings. Sold it. The way that car was maintained before they forgot the oil, it would of made 250K miles. If I could do it over, I would keep driving and let them put a new engine in it. Now if anyone else works on my car/truck I check it real close. If a Lexus Mechanic can do this think what could happen in a quick lube store :(
